Following the surge in number of COVID-19 cases recorded in Nigeria in the last couple of weeks, the federal government is considering locking down 18 local government areas which account for 60 per cent of confirmed cases in the country.
This was revealed on Monday by the Chairman of the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19, Boss Mustapha, while fielding questions from press men shortly after he briefed the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), on situation report at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
He said affected state governments would implement what he described as “precision lockdown” in order to curb the spread of tje infection in those areas.
Data released by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, NCDC as of June 2, showed that Local Government Areas in Lagos and Abuja have recorded most COVID-19 cases in Nigeria. Below are the LGAs mostly affected:

13 – Lagos – Oshodi/Isolo
14 – Lagos – Apapa
15 – Lagos – Amuwo Odofin
16 – Edo – Oredo

20 – Ogun – Ado Odo
Mustapha further explained why the country has recorded low death cases in comparism with other countries, noting that 80% of the infections are in the age bracket of 31 to 40 years, which he described as a very active part of the population.
Pharmanewsonline reports that Nigeria recorded highest infections on Saturday with 779 cases, then 490 on Sunday, 566 on Monday and 561 cases for Tuesday.
