Anticipation among young pharmacists across the country reached a peak on Monday, 15 December, as the online poll for the 2025 Pharmanews Young Pharmacist of the Year Award officially closed at 12 noon.
At the end of a transparent, competitive, and multi-stage selection process, Pharm. Abdullahi Tama Haruna emerged winner of the 2025 award. He polled a total of 15,627 votes, defeating the first runner-up, Pharm. Uforo Joseph Obobo, who recorded 13,064 votes. Pharm. Unique Chukwu emerged second runner-up with 9,400 votes, while Pharm. Yusuf Babatunde garnered 272 votes.
The selection process commenced with nationwide peer nominations, during which pharmacists nominated colleagues who distinguished themselves within the year under review through professional excellence, leadership, advocacy, and impactful contributions to pharmacy practice. All nominations were subjected to rigorous screening before the shortlisted candidates advanced to the final voting stage.
Instituted in 2018 by Pharmanews Limited, the Pharmanews Young Pharmacist of the Year Award recognises exceptional young pharmacists who demonstrate innovation, commitment to public health, and positive representation of the profession. Over the years, the award has become a respected platform for celebrating excellence and inspiring emerging leaders within Nigeria’s pharmaceutical sector.
Previous recipients of the award include Pharm. Isa Muhammad (2018), Pharm. Frank Eze (2019), Pharm. Dan Eze (2020), Pharm. Ozioma Onyedikachukwu Ezeofor (2022), Pharm. Uwem O. Ebong (2023), and Pharm. Hashidu Danjuma Aminu (2024).
With his emergence as the 2025 winner, Pharm. Haruna joins a distinguished league of young pharmacists whose work continues to shape the future of pharmacy practice in Nigeria.
