Encomiums poured in for the Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria (PSN), Oyo State Branch, following the unveiling and commissioning of the Asiwaju Adebowale Omotosho Pharmacy House, a landmark five-storey edifice described as the first of its kind among PSN branches in Nigeria.

The project, commissioned in Ibadan by the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja, was celebrated by pharmacists and stakeholders as a major milestone in the history of the Pharmacy profession in Oyo State and Nigeria at large.

Speaking during the event, Chairman of PSN Oyo State, Pharm. (Col.) Victor Segun Ajanaku (Rtd), described the project as a historic achievement in the 99-year history of the society.

According to him, the building represents a long-term vision of institutional growth, unity, and self-sufficiency for pharmacists in the state.

“We aim to turn it into a centre of excellence in pharmacy administration,” he said.

Ajanaku explained that the facility would serve as the permanent secretariat and meeting point for pharmacists in the state, while some floors of the building would also be leased to generate revenue for the running of the society.

He appreciated members of the society, past leaders, and stakeholders who contributed to the successful completion of the project, particularly the Chairman of Bond Chemical Industries Limited, Pharm. (Asiwaju) Adebowale Omotosho, for his immense financial support.

“We are grateful to our father in the profession, Asiwaju Adebowale Omotosho, whose contribution played a major role in bringing this project to reality,” he said.

In his remarks, former Chairman of PSN Oyo State, Pharm. Abiodun Ajibade, gave a historical account of the project, noting that the journey began in 2017 with the acquisition of land intended for the development of a Pharmacy House.

He recalled that despite several environmental and structural challenges encountered during the early stages of the project, members of the society remained committed to achieving the vision.

“We are gathered today to celebrate the first pharmacy house in Oyo State that belongs to pharmacists. One singular contribution from Asiwaju Omotosho made a major difference,” Ajibade said.

Commissioning the building, the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Ladoja, commended the leadership of the society for the initiative and urged pharmacists to embrace collaboration with traditional medicine practitioners to promote indigenous healthcare development.

“There are useful elements that can be extracted from traditional remedies through research and collaboration,” the monarch said.

Also speaking, former National President of the Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria, Pharm. Olumide Akintayo, described the project as a remarkable achievement worthy of celebration.

“Many professional bodies in this country do not have anything close to this. It is a great development for the pharmacy profession,” he said.

Akintayo also stressed the need for stronger government support for local pharmaceutical manufacturing, noting that the sector’s industrial growth largely depends on deliberate policies, infrastructure, and access to affordable funding.

On his part, the donor and namesake of the building, Pharm. (Asiwaju) Adebowale Omotosho, said supporting the project was his own way of giving back to a profession that contributed immensely to his success.

“Whatever I have achieved financially came from pharmacy. Giving back to the profession is not too much,” he said.

The event attracted pharmacists, traditional rulers, industry stakeholders, eminent Nigerians, PSN stakeholders from Lagos, Osun, Kwara and across the country, including Pharm.Tanko Ayuba, president, PSN and many others.
