  AHAPN Mourns as Chief Pharmacist Ebede Dies of COVID-19

Hospital and administrative pharmacists across the country were thrown into mourning mood as one of them, Pharm. Alochukwu Kenneth Ebede, a Chief Pharmacist at the Federal Teaching Hospital Abakiliki, Ebonyi, died of the dreaded Coronavirus.

Announcing his demise, the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the Association of Hospital and Administrative Pharmacists of Nigeria, AHAPN, in a statement mailed to Pharmanewsonline, expressed their grieve over the untimely passing away of Ebede, who was said to have battled the infection until his death on 5 July 2020.

While the remains of the late Ebede has been committed to mother earth, as disclosed in the document signed by Dr Kingsley Chiedu Amibor, national chairman, AHAPN, the association cautioned all healthcare professionals and pharmacists on the need to be well protected at all times while administering care to patients.

Amibor, seized the opportunity to emphasize on regular adherence to COVID-19 preventive guidelines, such as wearing of PPE the right way, regular hand washing and observance of social distancing among others.

The statement reads: “The National Executive Committee (NEC) of the Association of Hospital and Administrative Pharmacists of Nigeria (AHAPN) is pained to announce the untimely death of our member, Pharm. Alochukwu Kenneth Ebede, a Chief Pharmacist at the Federal Teaching Hospital Abakiliki, Ebonyi State, on 5th July, 2020 from complications of COVID-19.  He has since been buried.

“His death should serve as a reminder to all healthcare professionals including pharmacists that COVID-19 is real and we must of necessity make interventions to avoid contracting the virus and stay alive for our families, friends and loved ones.

“Wearing of PPE the right way, regular hand washing and observing social distancing among others should be a way of life with us going forward. May God comfort the family of Pharm. Ebede and grant his soul eternal rest.  Adieu Ken. “.

  1. Rest peacefully my dear brother, friend and co-worker in Alex Ekwueme Federal University Teaching Hospital, Abakaliki where we both started the journey together on the same day.

    You were just a jolly good, easy going fellow from the time we met during our interview with the Board back then.
