ALPs National Commissions New Secretariat in Lagos, Ahead of ‘HeartBeat 2024’

Ahead of its 16th Biennial National Conference, slated to hold from 14 to 18 May, in Benin City, Edo State, the Association of Lady Pharmacists of Nigeria (ALPS), has launched a new national secretariat, at the Pharmacy House, in Lagos on Monday.

The official commissioning of the ALPs new secretariat, which was performed by the President, Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria (PSN), Prof. Cyril Usifoh, took place during the pre-conference media briefing, in Lagos.

Prof. Usifoh, who unveiled the new ALPs National office in Lagos, in the company of the PSN National Secretary, Pharm. Gafar Madehin, congratulated the lady pharmacists on their success in securing an office at the Pharmacy House, after a long period of operating without a permanent secretariat, assuring them of every support the PSN can provide in making their forthcoming conference a success.

Gafar Madehin, with other national ALPs leaders at the press briefing on Monday.

He categorically stated that he will crave the indulgence of all technical group leaders to emulate the good example of ALPs in converting their annual national conference to biennial conference, in order to create room for more preparation and to conserve resources.

In her remarks at the media briefing, the National Chairman, ALPs, Mrs Scholastica Lan, explained the rationale behind the biennial national conference of the association, which is to build capacity of lady pharmacists, network with diverse professional groups, ministries, departments and agencies (MDAs), offices of the first ladies of states and men and women of goodwill/Philanthropists, in advancing the objectives of the association in touch lives and providing quality services to the populace.

Speaking on the theme of the conference, “Making healthcare impacts in tandem with the Sustainable Development Goals 2030”, Lan said there is no better time to deliberate on the theme, than now, as the adoption of the agenda 2030 for sustainable development opened new opportunities to work towards healthy outcomes all through government and society/community approaches.

“We are plagued with a high burden of healthcare needs on this side of the continent and much of healthcare delivery is dependent on the quality of pharmaceutical products and commodities. Discussions at the conference will critically expose how the Pharmacy profession/ lady pharmacists have roles in creating impact for the actualisation of the SDGs”, she noted.

The ALPs National Chairman assured delegates to the conference the best delivery as the Central Planning Committee Chairman, Dr Rametu Momodu, has thrown her weight into the preparations in ensuring that the standard is maintained.

Speaking on the new ALPs Secretariat, she said as an association with global and national partners, it is just proper to have an office befitting their status. The office being in its formative stage, she solicited for support with work equipment like laptops, printers, and other relevant equipment that will facilitate the official work of the association.

The CPC Chairman Dr Rametu Momodu, emphasised the aptness of the conference’ s theme, saying it underscores the pivotal role lady pharmacists play in shaping the future of healthcare, while contributing to global sustainability goals.

She asserted that the conference will serve as a dynamic platform meticulously designed to foster an environment where socialisation flourishes organically. It’s more than just a gathering, she noted, adding that it’s a melting pot of ideas, experiences, and perspectives, where professionals come together to engage in meaningful conversations, and forge lasting connections that transcends geographical boundaries.
