 Applause, as Nafisat Taiwo Emerges OAU Pharmacy Best Graduating Student

Young and exceptional Nafisat Adeola Taiwo has emerged best graduating student of the Faculty of Pharmacy, Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, Osun State, for the 2019/2020 academic session, with a CGPA of 4.83 out of the maximum of 5.0.

The soft-spoken and newly decorated Taiwo, who was among 101 graduates of the faculty whose induction and oath-taking ceremony took place recently, was given a standing ovation by all in attendance, as she climbed the podium to receive her prize.

Congratulating Taiwo and her colleagues, dean of the faculty, Prof. (Mrs) Olubunmi Afolabi, charged the newly robed students to move with the trend in the Pharmacy world, adding that they should join hands to push the boundary of what Pharmacy is to what it should be, saying they should be good ambassadors of the school and the Pharmacy profession wherever they find themselves.

Speaking with Pharmanewsonline immediately after receiving the PCN as well as Dean’s plaques and gift for the feat, Taiwo, who was beaming with smiles, attributed her feat to God’s favour, adding that hard work, consistency, prioritising of schedules, going the extra mile, perseverance and dedication also contributed to her achievement.

Speaking further, Taiwo, a native of Ede, Osun State, and firstborn from the family of six, disclosed that Pharmacy as a course seemed tough at first, but she grew strong skin towards it as it progressed.

“The feeling I had when I found out that I was the best graduating student could best be described as, thrilling, gladdening and jubilant. I was lost for words to describe the feeling and emotions perfectly, but I return the glory to almighty God the creator of heaven and earth.

The brainy Taiwo, whose joy knows no bound even on her seat after the announcement attributed the feat to divine support and that of her parents, lecturers and loved ones,.

She specially acknowledged God’s grace in her successful academic journey, saying “It is only by God’s grace”.

“Special appreciation goes to the Almighty God for His unending support. Also, my parents, family, lecturers, classmates and friends assisted me in this journey. “I must say I am proud of myself and my set today” she enthused.

For her excellent academic performance, she won some awards to her merit, including the Pharmacists Council of Nigeria Best Graduating Pharmacy Student Award; Faculty of Pharmacy, Obafemi Awolowo University, Overall Best Graduating Student Award for 2019/2020 Session, and others.

While speaking with Pharmanewsonline, Mr Taiwo Adeyemo, the father of Nafisat Taiwo also acknowledged God’s grace in the successful academic journey of his daughter, saying she has always been identified with first positions since her primary to secondary school days.

Details of Taiwo’s academic performance showed that she had a GPA of 4.83 out of the cumulative 5.0, while twenty-two others graduands also came out with distinction.

The Board of Fellows Award Prize was also given to Chaimaka Bose Ukpai, the student with the best overall marks in Part 4 and 5 courses in Pharmacognosy, while Medplus Academic and Leadership Awards were given to Michael Abayomi Olushola and Chidinma Jacinta Ezegamba.

Twenty-two other students who came out with distinction included Odunayo Abraham Abiodun; Daniel Adedayo Adeniyi; Rukayat Adenike Adeniyi; Oluwafisayo Dorcas Adeyooye; Excel Erioluwa Adisa; Monsuru Abiola Afolabi; Oluwafisayomi Akintayo; Adedolapo Dorcas Alakinde; Brenda Alaso Asawo; Jessica Morolade Fajoyomi; Waheed Adeniyi Niniola; Chiamaka Ifenyiwa Okoroafor; Gloria Oluwaponmile Olaleye; Ifedolapo Olabisi Olayemi; Michael Ayobami Olushola; Oyinkansola Oshungboun; Opeyemi Success Oyekan; Aminat Opeyemi Oyetunde; Rodhiyat Abike Raheem; Abdulrasaq Ademola Sholanke; Onaopemipo Solomon and Chiamaka Bose Ukpai.

The colourful ceremony witnessed a massive turnout of participants, including the professors, faculty members, pharmacists in academia, students, parents as well as top PCN and PSN officials.
