BASF Award: Application Closes September 26

BASF is calling pharmacists to apply for the BASF Award 2021, as submission of applications ends on 26 September, 2021.

The award is designed for young female pharmacists that demonstrate innovation in pharmaceutical manufacturing/technology or who have carried out outstanding research work in areas having direct bearing on drug research and development.

PSN National Secretary, Pharm. Gbenga Falabi noted that interested/eligible PSN financial members are encouraged to apply, while they can also nominate eligible candidates who should not be older than 35 years of age.

To be considered for the award, he stressed that eligible pharmacists must be knowledgeable in manufacturing as well as demonstrate achievements in innovations, production and supply chain processes.

He also added that candidates must demonstrate innovation and commercial potential that enhance, improve or revolutionise the manufacturing of pharmaceutical products.

“While candidates in academia and research development must have discovered a new drug or raw material, bringing a new product to market, transferring a research to practical stage, and as well improve the performance of an existing product” he noted.

Falabi, stressed that applicants should as well show their achievements, stating the awards they have received and also provide evidence about their performance.

The evidence must include how they are able to use technology, application or production techniques in manufacturing process, innovation that result in real-term benefits in manufacturing time, safety, and consistency or quality.

“It should as well show patents awarded, independent research showing success in grants, academic impact of research, original research in peer reviewed journals, national or international speaking invitations and effective and appropriate exploitation of research including prospective economic or social impact”, he stated.

He also advised applicants to send a statement (not exceeding two A-4 pages) explaining how they meet the selection criteria for this award; their curriculum vitae; supporting documents to prove their claims and 2 letters of referee (one referee should be the employer or supervisor).

The PSN scribe also said applicants may be invited to a zoom meeting by the award selection committee to clarify some of their claims. Also, noting that all documents should be submitted electronically to psnmedinfo@psnnational.org and ikenna.mbata@gmail.com.
