In a remarkable show of respect, executives of the Board of Fellows of the Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria (BoF-PSN) and the National and Lagos State Chapters of the Association of Lady Pharmacists (ALPs) have commended the profound contributions of the late Pharmanews founder, Pharm. (Sir) Ifeanyi Atueyi, to the Pharmacy profession and the healthcare sector at large.

Leaders of both associations, during condolence visits to the Atueyi family and the Pharmanews team, reflected on his numerous contributions to the Society over the years. They described him as an outstanding Fellow and elder statesman, who distinguished himself through the publication of Pharmanews for over four decades.

The BoF-PSN delegation, led by its Chairman, Pharm. Uchenna Apakama, extolled the legendary and transformative life of late Sir Atueyi, who served as a mentor and source of inspiration to both the young and the old.

“He was a voice of ethics and excellence in the healthcare sector in Nigeria and beyond. The reach of his work through Pharmanews extended to every corner of the world,” said Apakama, who was represented by the Secretary, Pharm. Damian Izuka.

Apakama further commended the iconic pharmacist for initiating a network of elder pharmacists, ensuring they remained recognised and engaged by the leadership of the Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria—a legacy, he said, that not only kept them bonded but also encouraged longevity.

Other members of the BoF-PSN present at the visit included Pharm. (Dr) Rametu Momodu, vice chairman; Pharm. (Dr) Margaret Obono, financial secretary; Pharm. (Mrs) Osaretin Jaiyeola, treasurer, and Pharm. (Dr) Ngozi Onuorah, assistant secretary

Similarly, the ALPs delegation, led by former National Chairman, Chief (Mrs) Yetunde Morohundiya, and Lagos State Chairman, Pharm. (Mrs) Yewande Olorunsola, paid tribute to the late elder pharmacist, expressing heartfelt sympathy to the family.

“We know our dear elder and colleague was a remarkable individual who touched countless lives. He will be remembered for his kindness, compassion, and service to the Pharmacy profession and humanity. Pharm. (Sir) Ifeanyi Atueyi lived a fulfilling life, and his legacy endures,” Morohundiya remarked.

She prayed that the unconditional love of God would grant the family comfort and strength as they navigate this period of loss.

The BoF-PSN chairman added that while the group deeply mourns the passing of this Pharmacy icon, they take solace in the belief that he is in a better place. “He was a mentor and an inspiration to many, across generations. His life was a living sermon that touched and transformed lives. We will miss him, but our prayer is that God grants his family and the entire pharmacy profession the fortitude to bear this loss,” he concluded.
