Abia State governor, Okezie Ikpeazu, has tested positive for COVID-19.
According to the Commissioner for Information in the state, Mr John Okiyi Kalu, on Monday, the governor had gone into isolation before his result returned positive, and directed the deputy governor to act on his behalf pending the time he resumes duty.

”Recall that on Saturday, 30 May, 2020, Governor Okezie Ikpeazu volunteered his sample for COVID-19 test and subsequently directed members of the state Executive Council (EXCO) and those of the inter ministerial committee on COVID-19 to submit themselves for the same test.
“On Tuesday, 2 June, 2020, the result of Governor Ikpeazu’s test returned negative,” he said.
He continued, on Thursday, 4 June 2020, the governor submitted another sample at NCDC laboratory for confirmation and the result returned positive.
However, the state came first with 67 new cases as Nigeria records 260 new COVID-19 cases on Sunday.
The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), on Sunday, announced that the country has recorded 260 new cases of coronavirus (COVID-19), bringing the total number of infections in Nigeria to 12,486.
