He did not wield a stethoscope,
Yet he healed nations.
He did not dwell in the theatre,
Yet he performed surgery on systems—
Restoring ethics, reviving trust,
Rebuilding the heart of a profession.
He was a pharmacist of the spirit,
Compounding hope with discipline,
Dispensing wisdom with humility,
Prescribing excellence with grace.
Each capsule of counsel he gave
Cured confusion and inspired clarity.
Each tablet of truth he spoke
Strengthened the bones of a generation.
He healed not just the sick,
But the soul of a nation is seeking order.
Like Imhotep, the ancient sage of Egypt who lived over 4600 years ago —
Pharmacist, Physician, architect, engineer, and seer—
Who built with both wisdom and wonder,
Chief Akinkugbe, too, built with purpose and precision.
Where Imhotep raised temples for Pharaoh,
Akinkugbe built institutions for posterity.
Both healed through vision,
Both prescribed knowledge as medicine,
Both saw humanity as their greatest patient.
He built not merely companies,
But pillars of integrity—
Jolad, Interpharma, Glaxo—
Names now inscribed on the tablets of time.
He did not chase fame;
Fame bowed quietly to his grace.
When others saw problems,
He saw prescriptions—
For leadership, for systems, for hope.
He believed healing was not only in medicine,
But in mentorship, character, and vision.
At UCH Ibadan, he planted seeds of service.
At PSN and NAPHARM,
He nurtured forests of professionalism.
His life became a living formulary
Of faith, excellence, and national pride.
Chief Oludolapo Ibukun Akinkugbe,
Your name is written in golden ink
Upon the prescription pad of history.
You taught us that the highest pharmacy
Is the stewardship of humanity itself.
Your legacy is our continuing dose—
Of courage and compassion,
Of conscience and continuity.
You healed through leadership,
And in your light, we are made whole.
Sleep well, Asiwaju of Integrity,
Architect of values, Builder of men.
Your light did not dim—
It diffused into a thousand lamps
Now illuminating the path you once walked.
A life that echoes through the ages
In the grand story of pharmacy,
Specific names glow beyond the frame of time—
And yours, Chief Akinkugbe,
Shines beside Imhotep’s,
In that eternal company of healers and builders,
Where wisdom wears the crown of humility
And service becomes the highest science.
Generations yet unborn will know your name—
Not only as a pharmacist,
But as a healer of systems, a reformer of minds,
And a leader who turned knowledge into nationhood.
Goodnight, Pharmacist Oludolapo Ibukun Akinkugbe, CFR, the Imhotep of our time.
