In a bid to ensure that the state is on top of the situation in managing the spread of the deadly coronavirus, Edo State government has called on residents to religiously comply with preventive and safety guidelines even as more deaths are being recorded. According to local media, the state has recorded four new cases and five more deaths from the second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic, bringing the total of number of deaths to 63.

State COVID-19 Incident Manager, Dr Andrew Obi, made this disclosure during the daily virtual meeting of the State COVID-19 Task Force under the strict supervision of the state governor, Godwin Obaseki.

Expressing concerns over the rise in fertility rate, Obi called on residents to complement government’s efforts by complying with all set guidelines and preventive measures to contain the infectious disease. He added that the state also recorded 28 more recoveries even as a total of 367 active cases are being managed at various treatment and isolation centres in the state.

“Edo State recorded four new cases, five deaths and three more health workers infected in the last 24 hours. The four new cases were confirmed positive from the 328 samples collected within a 24-hour period.

“With the new figures, Edo has now recorded 1,915 confirmed cases, 1,485 recoveries, 63 deaths and 403 health workers infection,” he said.
