The Governor of Ebonyi State, Dave Umahi has tested positive to the ravaging Coronavirus.
He confirmed his status of the infection in a statement personally signed by him on Saturday.
The statement revealed that Umahi and some of his close aides tested positive for the virus after carrying out the Coronavirus test.
The Ebonyi governor also disclosed that, although they are currently asymptomatic, but they have since been isolated, in line with the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, NCDC’s laid down protocols.
He has also directed the Deputy Governor, Kelechi Igwe, to take over the frontline coordination of the state’s fight against the pandemic to protect Ebonyi people.
With this development, the governor has urged citizens of the state to be more cautious in their interactions, while adhering seriously to social distancing, use of masks, frequently washing of hands with soap and running water or use of alcohol based hand sanitizer.
Umahi assured the people that he will be working from home and will conduct all meetings virtually.
According to the NCDC, Ebonyi has recorded at least 438 cases of the virus, as of Friday evening.
