It was a great moment for Izukanne Emembolu, winner, Pharmanews PANSite of the Year Online Poll, as she received her award plaque and a cheque from the Managing Director, Pharmanews Limited, Pharm. (Sir)  Ifeanyi Atueyi, Thursday, at the Pharmanews corporate head office, Mende, Maryland, Lagos.

Emembolu, a 400 Level female Pharmacy student of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Anambra State, was decorated in the presence of her friends and relative.

Speaking at the award presentation ceremony, Sir Atueyi  appreciated Emembolu and her team, which included her aunt and her friends for coming over for the celebration.

The Pharmanews boss expressed great delight at Emembolu’s  level of comportment as well as her charisma, as he congratulated her for emerging the first female winner of the very tough contest.

While acknowledging her commitment to serving humanity, the octogenarian said  she has distinguished herself among her peers for organising several health intervention projects in her school and across other pharmacy schools, saying that contributed to her emergence as the winner of the online poll.

Atueyi further stressed the need for more Pharmacy students to seek ways of providing valuable services to their schools and to continue advancing the course of public health in their various domains, with the hope to emerge next winners.

He narrated how Pharmanewonline.com commenced the Online Poll for Pharmacy students in April 2019, with Yusuf Hassan Wada, a student of Usmanu Danfodiyo University as the winner maiden edition.

Commending the award winner, he said she has been found outstanding among her colleagues from all the schools of Pharmacy in the country, which made her emerged winner of the contest. “At a time, the contest became a tie, and we were troubled on what to do, but we decided to extend the date with only 48 hours, and we are  grateful that at the end, we had a winner, which was you”.

While speaking, the duo of Business Manager, Pharmanews, Mr Moses Dike  and the Editor, Mr Patrick Iwelunmor, charged Emembolu to live up to the expectations of her numerous voters and supporters, who reposed their confidence in her by giving her their votes, adding that being the winner of the award requires her to improve in all levels of her operation, so that Pharmanews can be proud of her.

Presenting the award plaque, the Executive Director, Pharmanews, Lady Joan Atueyi, admonished her to focus on her passion, gift and talent, as they will definitely make way for her, adding that her confidence and determination would take her far in life.

While delivering her speech, an excited Izukanne Emembolu  promised not to disappoint the confidence reposed on her by her supporters, and also not to let down Pharmanews expectations for her, adding that she is ready to carry Pharmanews on her shoulders wherever she goes and pledged to be a good ambassador of the organisation.

Emembolu, who dedicated the award to all her  supporters and those that voted her nationwide, said it was a big honour, which she never thought could happen. She however appreciated the management of Pharmanews for the honour done on her, while appreciating her colleagues nationwide and promised not to let them down.

“I also want to thank every Pharmacy students in the country who have voted for me, especially the Faculty of Pharmacy, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, and I have to tell them that I will not disappoint the confidence they have reposed in me. This award also means that I have to be the eyes of Pharmanews and a brand ambassador of the organistaion”, she said.

Other contestants who participated in the poll were: Victor Osundele, who got 7244 votes; Yusuf Babatunde, 349 votes; Joan Kuyet Solomon, 254 votes; Amonu Muhammed Bello, 157 votes, while the eventual winner, Izukanne Emembolu, got 7575 votes.

Other participants at the event are:  Mrs Temitope Obayendo, Online editor, Pharmanews; Mr Adebayo Oladejo, senior correspondent, Pharmanews; Miss Omolola Famodun digital marketing executive, Pharmanews.

Members of her team are: Mrs  Ifeyinwa Emembolu, her aunt, Albert Miracle, 400 Level; Iyi Chidera Lawrencia, 400 Level; Ugochukwu Ebuka Peter, 400 Level; Ekeomodi Christabel Chikodi, 400 Level; and Mmegbuanaeze Chiamaka, 400 Level, all of UNIZIK, Anambra State.
