Gombe State Governor, Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, has hosted a state banquet in honour of delegates to the 96th Annual National Conference of the Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria (PSN) in Gombe state, tagged ‘ Jewel City Conference 2023 ‘.

The banquet, which took place on Friday at the Banquet Hall, Government House, Gombe, served as a farewell gesture to the delegates as the conference came to a close. It also served as a show of appreciation to the leadership and stakeholders of the PSN for selecting Gombe as the host of their annual gathering.

Speaking at the event, Gov. Yahaya, represented by his deputy, Dr Manassah Daniel Jatau, reaffirmed his commitment to maintaining a strong partnership with the PSN and other pertinent players in the pharmaceutical sector, to attract investments to Gombe State within the pharmaceutical and medical industry.

“We are delighted to host you as our guests for your 96th National Annual Conference here in Gombe. He further urged them to stand alongside their President and become ambassadors of Gombe State anywhere they find themselves. He assured them that they would always be welcomed and treated with the same warmth and kindness that reflect the hospitality and generosity of the government and people of Gombe State.

In his remark, the President of the PSN, Professor Cyril Usifoh, conveyed their profound appreciation to Governor Inuwa Yahaya for what they described as “unwavering support, complete solidarity, and exceptional hospitality” throughout the conference.

He further stated that the government and people of Gombe State have embraced them as part of their extended family, portraying Gombe people as exceptionally warm, kind, and benevolent.

Impressed by the security and peaceful atmosphere in Gombe State, the well-developed infrastructure, including the sprawling Muhammadu Buhari Industrial Park, and the strategic location of the state as the centre of the North-East sub-region, the leaders of the pharmaceutical industry committed to considering Gombe for their investments.

Earlier, the Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Ibrahim Abubakar Njodi who delivered an opening remark, underscored Gombe's readiness to collaborate with partners in advancing various initiatives, emphasizing that the state is wholeheartedly receptive to hosting events similar to the one organized by the PSN.

Highlights of the event were the presentation of awards of excellence to exceptional individuals in recognition of their significant contributions to the pharmaceutical industry and their support for the success of the PSN conference in Gombe. Notable among the recipients were the First Lady of Gombe state, Haj. Asma’u Inuwa Yahaya and the Emir of Gombe, His Royal Highness, Alh. (Dr) Abubakar Shehu Abubakar III CFR.

There was also the swearing-in of some newly elected national officials of the PSN, including Pharm. Madehin Gafar, who emerged as the new secretary, Pharm. Jelili Kelani, who emerged as the new treasurer, Prof Moses Atanda Akanmu, the new editor-in-chief, and Pharm.
