The Gregory  University, Uturu, Abia State,  has recently named her Pharmacy building after the President, Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria (PSN), Pharm. (Mazi). Sam Ohuabunwa.

In his welcome address, the Vice- Chancellor of Gregory University, Uturu,  Uwakwe Augustine Amadikwa, said he was glad that the foremost industrialist and pharmacist will have his name immortalized in the great institution through naming of the Pharmacy building after him.

He added that indeed, Ohuabunwa is well-deserving of such honour, because he inspired the university to embark on the project during his stay as the chairman of the board of trustees of the institution.

In his response, Ohuanbunwa said, “It is a great honour for me to have the College of Pharmacy Gregory University Uturu named after my humble self. I have the distinguished privilege to commission the Mazi Sam Ohuabunwa College of Pharmacy building GGU Uturu.

“I do not doubt that the Mazi Sam Ohuabunwa College of Pharmacy is the institution of choice for prospective pharmacists who desire a strong foundation to succeed in the prestigious profession of Pharmacy, as the college boasts of all required instructional equipment for learning.

“I am elated that what started as a dream to have a school of Pharmacy in Abia State,  has been brought to reality. I couldn’t be more proud that Abia State has two schools of Pharmacy with one named after me, making it one of the few schools of Pharmacy to be named after pharmacists who have distinguished themselves and also all of this happened under my leadership as president of Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria.

“Therefore I have announced the establishment of a 100million naira endowment fund to further advance the work that would be done in the school and support research for the production of pharmaceutical products such as drugs and vaccines especially as we strive to achieve drug independence in a post COVID era”,  Ohuabunwa stated.
