In a remarkable show of community care and commitment to public health, HubPharm Africa brought free, high-quality medical services to the residents of Ikosi-Ketu during its Second Annual Free Medical Outreach. Held at the organisation’s office at 17 Ademola Osinowo Street, the event drew a large crowd from across the Ikosi-Ketu Local Council Development Area (LCDA), with over 159 individuals benefiting from the initiative.
The outreach offered a comprehensive range of healthcare services — all free of charge — addressing everything from basic health screenings to critical diagnostics. Residents received medical consultations, preventive health education, and essential treatments, many of which are often financially out of reach for the average Lagosian.
Key offerings at the outreach included free medical consultations by licensed physicians, health education sessions focused on preventive care, and vital signs assessments, including blood pressure checks, blood sugar level monitoring, BMI calculations, and evaluations of body and visceral fat.
Pharmaceutical support came from prominent partners. Shalina Healthcare Ltd. provided free antimalarial and analgesic medications, ensuring relief for common ailments. Superior Pharmaceutical Ltd., under the regional leadership of Olaniran Azeez, not only supplied analgesics but also facilitated free Prostate-Specific Antigen (PSA) tests — a critical step in the early detection of prostate cancer, particularly among men over 40.
Vision care was another major component of the outreach. Dr Emmanuel Maduako and his team from Mannych Eye Clinic conducted detailed eye screenings, addressing both minor and potentially serious vision problems, a service many attendees had never accessed before.
Mr Mike Okolie of the Lagos State Health Management Agency (LASHMA) and his team also played an instrumental role, educating attendees on the benefits of enrolling in state-supported health insurance schemes. This aspect of the outreach aimed to promote longer-term healthcare sustainability beyond one-off events.
Speaking after the event, several residents expressed their gratitude, citing the life-changing nature of the services received. For many, it was their first encounter with professional medical care in years.
“This outreach means a lot,” said Mrs Adeola, a local resident. “I was able to get my blood pressure checked, consult a doctor, and even receive free medication. It’s a blessing.”
HubPharm Africa’s CEO, Pharm. Sesan Kareem, reiterated the organisation’s mission to bridge healthcare gaps in underserved communities. “We believe healthcare is a right, not a privilege,” the CEO said. “Through partnerships and public engagement, we can make real change happen.”
The success of the event highlights the growing importance of collaborative healthcare delivery. With the support of corporate partners, medical professionals, and government agencies, HubPharm Africa is helping to reshape community health outcomes in Lagos — one outreach at a time.
As healthcare accessibility remains a pressing issue across Nigeria, initiatives like this underscore the potential for targeted, community-driven action to create lasting impact.
