Ibadan Explosion: 90% of Victims discharged, as Clinical Counselling Commences – Makinde

Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, on Sunday, released a situation report from the last Tuesday explosion that rocked Bodija area of the state, which has claimed at least five lives with 77 injured.

He said 90 per cent of hospitalised victims of the blast have been discharged from hospital. At the same time, a clinical psychological counselling section has been initiated for the victims, most of who are yet to recover from the shock and trauma of the tragedy.

Makinnde , in a statement on his official X account, further disclosed that structural integrity test has been conducted on about 230 properties around the site of the explosion.

According to him “Yesterday, the medical team at the Emergency Operations Centre and the Honourable Commissioner for Health, visited two of the hospitals where victims from the incident were taken and over 90% of the victims have been discharged.

“The death toll from the incident currently stands at five persons.

“The clinical psychologist has commenced counselling for victims of the incident at the Emergency Operations Centre in Ibadan”.

The Oyo Governor assured the public of intimating them with result of investigation into the cause of the explosion, when security agencies conclude on it.

He expressed his appreciation to members of the Nigerian Society of Engineers, who he said have been conducting structural integrity tests on about 230 properties around the site of the explosion.

Makinde gave the number of affected buildings and their distance to the explosion site as follows “13 houses within 50 metres radius of the blast site; 40 houses at 100 metres radius; 122 houses at 200 metres radius and 53 houses within a 250 metres radius”.

He also thanked the Lagos State Government for its kind gesture in releasing the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) to support rescue operations at the explosion site.

“I want to appreciate @jidesanwoolu for releasing the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) to support us, and for the assistance offered by the team led by Engineer Olatunde Akinsanya, the Director of Operations”. he stated.
