“Intentional days create a life on purpose.” – Adrienne Enns
As an accredited training consultant, I train salespeople and professionals in capability building and strategy. Leading organisations invest in preparing the right teams. If you want your sales team to perform better in the field, you must equip them with the right training and preparation. This principle applies across departments.
If you want to achieve your goals, prepare. Preparation cannot be displaced or replaced on the ladder of success. It leads directly to success. And it comes in various forms—through ensuring the right processes, assembling and equipping the right people, launching the right products, or targeting the right market. Don’t take off without preparing.
Your goals determine your level of preparation
Successful people prepare well. Reports show that Usain Bolt trained six days a week, eleven months a year, spending 90 minutes daily in the gym to improve his speed, agility, and endurance. The result? Bolt is a three-time Olympic gold medallist who holds the world record in the 100m at 9.58 seconds. He ran the 200m in 19.19 seconds, won three gold medals at the 2012 London Olympics, and was the first person to win gold in both the 100m and 200m.
Bolt made history at three consecutive Olympics—2008, 2012, and 2016. The relay gold at the 2016 Olympics sealed an unprecedented “triple-triple”. That’s the way of champions. Your goals will determine the intensity and quality of your preparation.
If you want to catch a big fish, you need a big bait—because a small bait won’t attract a big catch. The right preparation brings the right results.
A traveller prepares their bag and all they’ll need for the journey. Those going on short trips usually carry light luggage, while longer journeys require more. Preparation in life’s journey is vital. It equips you ahead of time. In business and in personal life, preparation gives you a significant advantage. It enhances performance. It helps you know what to do and when to do it. It shows you what to avoid and why. Preparation sets the pace; it raises the right questions and often provides the answers. Did you go through adequate preparation in the first quarter? Only you can say.
How is your performance so far?
As a consultant in the knowledge and business space, I often encourage professionals and entrepreneurs to periodically pause and assess their progress. Are you meeting your targets as planned? Revisit the goals you set at the start of the year—how are you performing against them?
There must be a point where you take a strategic look at what you’ve done so far. This gives you the opportunity to review or consolidate your actions.
You must be intentional in what you do to stay on the right path. Excellence doesn’t happen by chance—it comes by choice. It is a product of deliberate, consistent effort. Preparation is a mindset. Move from good to better, and then to best.
