Italian who brought Coronavirus to Nigeria, discharged – Sanwo-Olu

The Lagos State government in collaboration with the Infectious Disease Hospital , Yaba, has released the index case of COVID-19 in Nigeria, after he tested negative to the virus and was quarantined for 24 hours.

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos, made the announcement on Twitter Friday night.

He tweeted:“As the COVID-19 Incident Clcommander for Lagos, I am glad to inform you that the index case; the Italian gentleman is now negative.
“Through a combined effort of Lagos, Ogun State and Fed Health Authorities, we were able to limit the transmission of the virus to a single contact.”

The governor revealed that the index patient consented to donating one unit of white blood (plasma) before he was discharged., saying the blood plasma is rich in antibody proteins that target #COVID19 virus.He noted that :“The white blood plasma is frozen in our Bio-bank and will be useful in handling new cases.

“The blood plasma will be beneficial for the treatment of new patients in the absence of a defined therapeutic drug for #COVID19 yet”.

Meanwhile, Nigerians have been hailing the governor and his team for a good job done, on their successful handling of the index case.
