Kwara ACPN Offers Free Malaria Treatment to Over 200 Indigents

Over 200 vulnerable persons have received free malaria treatment in Bode-Saadu, in the Moro Local Government Area of Kwara State, during a medical outreach organised by the Association of Community Pharmacists of Nigeria, Kwara State Branch.

The association’s Chairperson in Kwara, Pharm. (Mrs) Munirat Bello, made this known on Monday, noting that the treatment was carried out as part of activities to mark the 2024 World Malaria Day (WMD).

The WMD is an international observance commemorated every year on 25 April and recognises global efforts to control malaria.

The 2024 edition of the WMD has its theme as, ‘Accelerating the fight against malaria for a more equitable world’.

Bello said more than 200 people, including children, have benefitted from the free malaria outreach, adding that the outreach includes free treatment with the recommended Artemisinin-based combination therapies drugs, deworming, and counselling.

She said, “Malaria has serious health challenges for the nation, adding that the programme was part of ACPN’s commitment to reducing the malaria impact.

“The most vulnerable people include pregnant women, infants and children less than five years of age”, she stated.

She advised residents to use insecticidal-treated nets and keep their environment clean to prevent mosquitoes from breeding.

Earlier in his remarks, the Daudu of Bode-Saadu, Alhaji Aliu Gambari, commended the pharmacists for the health intervention and appealed to them not to stop extending their health interventions to the community
