As part of efforts to bridge gaps in healthcare access in hard-to-reach communities in the Badagry Division of Lagos State, the Lagos State Health Management Agency (LASHMA) has deployed and commissioned the Eko Social Health Alliance (EKOSHA) mobile clinic for the use of the residents in Erikiti Oglo and its environment.

The EKOSHA mobile clinic was commissioned on Wednesday at Erikiti Oglo, Badagry, by the Permanent Secretary, LASHMA, Dr Emnanuella Zamba, and other stakeholders, for the vulnerable population to access quality and affordable healthcare without being pushed into financial hardship.

Speaking at the occasion, Zamba said that the rural health scheme was designed to bridge the gap for healthcare challenges faced by vulnerable residents in hard-to-reach communities, particularly where a Primary Healthcare Centre (PHC) is not available or where the existing PHC is undergoing reconstruction or renovation.

Dr Zamba disclosed that the deployment of the EKOSHA mobile clinic to Erikiti Oglo and its environment has clearly demonstrated the practical commitment of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu to improving the health and wellbeing of Lagos residents as well as taking healthcare access closer to residents in hard-to-reach communities in the State.

The mobile clinic, she said, will be in the community every Tuesday, 8 am – 5 pm, and will provide general consultations via telemedicine services, treatment of common illnesses, management of chronic diseases such as hypertension, diabetes and asthma, treatment of childhood illnesses, basic laboratory investigations, health education, counselling, as well as drug dispensing, among others.

Dr Zamba added that residents can also do their vital checks such as Blood Sugar. BP, weight and pulse through the mobile clinic. She reminded the residents that the mobile clinic is not a permanent one as it would be withdrawn once the community has a functional PHC or facility.

The permanent secretary recalled that during the flag-off of the first phase Rural Health Scheme at Agboyi – Ori Omi on 11 November, 2025, the agency promised to provide mobile clinics at five different hard-to-reach locations in the state. She said, “today, two communities out of the five locations have been provided with mobile clinics, and soon, the three others will be provided”.

She applauded the Baale of Erikiti Oglo, Chief Baale Abila Sedowhe Azonagbo, for his support in making the intervention possible, bringing healthcare closer to the people at the grassroots and moving Lagos State closer to achieving Universal Health Coverage (UHC).

Zamba urged the people of Erikiti Oglo and its neighbouring communities to take ownership of the programme, embrace the initiative, register on the Scheme, utilise the mobile clinic and give constructive feedback to the Agency on how to continually improve the medical intervention.

The Permanent Secretary promised the residents that the agency would still increase the number of visits by the mobile clinic once the communities can increase the number of beneficiaries on the scheme to 5,000.

Responding on behalf of the Baales in the communities, the Baale Erikiti Oglo, Chief Baale Abila Sedowhe, thanked the Lagos State Government and the Permanent Secretary, LASHMA, Dr Emmanuella Zamba, for bringing the mobile clinic to the people in Erikiti Oglo and its environment.

He said, “pregnant women,  nursing mothers and their children, including the elderly, usually travelled long distances to access healthcare services, but now, with the mobile clinic, they would be relieved of travelling long distances to seek medical attention.”

The Chief Baale, who applauded his colleagues for attending the event, implored other Baales to ensure that their residents enrol on EKOSHA and utilise the mobile clinic instead of self-medication.

Other dignitaries at the event included the Permanent Secretary, Health District V, Dr Oladapo Ashiyanbi; Baale Agbovipe, Chief Baale Peter Tonda; Baale Tohon, Chief Baale Sotin Adeoye; and Baale-elect, Zinvie, Chief Abiye Hunsitode, who was represented by Chief Abba.
