Beginning from Monday, 6 February, 2023, the Lagos State Health Management Agency (LASHMA) has begun enrolling vulnerable citizens of the state who cannot afford to pay their ILERA EKO health insurance payments as well as other Lagos residents who can.

According to a statement made by Dr Emmanuella Zamba, general manager of LASHMA, the registration and enrollment of the vulnerable in all 57 Local Government and Local Council Development Areas in the state is done to ensure that everyone has access to high-quality healthcare and that no one is left behind in the grand scheme of things.

The agency, said Dr Zamba, would start off its Year 2023 EKO Social Health Alliance (EKOSHA) recruitment of the vulnerable and poor in Ijede LCDA on Monday, 6 February, 2023; at Kosofe LGA on Tuesday,  and at Odi-Olowo LGA on Wednesday, 8 February, 2023.

“Other Local Governments and Local Council Development Areas that both the vulnerable and those who can pay their health insurance premiums will register in the month of February 2023 are Apapa LGA (16 February, 2023), Ojodu LCDA (21  February, 2023), Coker-Aguda LCDA (22  February, 2023) and Oriade LCDA (23 February, 2023)”, she stated.

The General Manager consequently advised everyone who has not yet joined the programme  to take advantage of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s invitation to enroll in order to avoid paying for medical expenses out of pocket and to have peace of mind.

She emphasised that the ILERA EKO premium for the Standard Plan (Individual) is N8,500 per year and that the premium for the family plan, which includes the father, mother, and four children under the age of 23, is N40,000 per year.

Dr Zamba noted that after paying the first N3,000 cost in full, individuals who are unable to pay the premium all at once can choose to pay in installments and get care for N1,000 per month for the individual plan.

“Enrollees for the family plan, can access care with N3,500 monthly after the payment of N10,500 at the first instance”, she said.

The General Manager stated that seniors can enroll in ILERA EKO for N34,000 annually, while the couple plan costs N65,000 annually. She also said that residents will receive free medical screenings and eyeglasses, and that LASHMA will hold raffle draws at each event where participants can win various prizes.
