Madonna University PANS Celebrates 2019 Students’ Week

The Pharmaceutical Association of Nigerian Students (PANS) Madonna University (MAU) Nigeria recently held her 2019 Students’ Week, which took place from 11 March to 3 April 2019, at the institution.

The PANS Week featured different activities, lined-up for different days of the celebration, which included: Pharmacy Decathlon, Opening match of the dispensers league, Pharmacy symposium/pharmacy awards, Finals for girls,  and Dispensers league finals/closure.

Prominent among the people that graced the Pharmacy Dispensers League/Symposium were:  Deputy Vice-Chancellor Madonna University, Dr Phillipe Mounmbegna; Dean, Faculty of Pharmacy, Madonna University Nigeria, Prof. Cletus Nze Aguwa; Associate Dean Pharm. Mrs Ogah Margaret; Distinguished Professors of Faculty of Pharmacy Madonna University, Prof. Oleka Kelechi Udeala; Prof. Azuka C. Oparah;  Prof. Okonta Jegbefume Matthew; Prof. Obaseki Ebor Emmanuel; Prof. Iwuagu Magnus; Prof. Onyekweli .A;  Prof. N. Oparache; and Prof. O. O. Ebong.

Other Madonna University Dons at the occasion were: Dr Felix Osuala; Dr M.C. Omuta; Dr (Mrs) Zellinjo Igweze;  Dr Tavs A. Abere, Dr E. C Egere; Dr Oluigbo Kennedy, with foreign lecturers from Philippine, alumni, pioneer graduates of the faculty of pharmacy Madonna University Elele, Rivers State, and former PANS Presidents of Madonna University Chapter,  Pharm. Iheka Gregory and Dean of Students’ Affairs Rev. Fr Sylvester FJS.

Some of the activities featured at the PANS Students’ Week were spelling bee, quiz and debate competitions by pharmacy decathlon, pharmacy symposium, pharmacy dispensers league/vitals signs checkup and awards reception.

At the end of all activities, nine winners emerged in all, and were presented Decathlon Value Awards by Prof. Azuka C. Oparah. The winners for the quiz competition were  Aniekwe Adaobi Maureen and Orji Sandra Chiemerie; while the trio of Obiefule Henry Chukwubuikem;  Adaobi Mavis;  and Ologundu Taiwo Temitope, emerged winners for the spelling bee competition, and Borokini Oluwafunto; Godspower Priscilla Kenyo; Onah Pascal and Oguezuonu Emmanuel were winners of the debate competition.

The symposium, themed “How a pharmacist can stay relevant in the 21st century”, highlighted  common issues experienced by pharmacists, in the face of unrelenting global changes and technological advancement, with slow progression of adoption of new advances coupled with ethical violation of external groups that disrupt how pharmacists can effectively reach out to the public.

The keynote speaker was Professor Okonta Jegbefume Matthew, while the featured speakers were Pharm. Anim Justice Ikechukwu of International Business Management Institute, Berlin, Germany; Dr. (Mrs) Zell Igweze and Pharm. Steve Igala.They spoke on topics:The Thriving Pharmacist (Essentials Skill Required of a Pharmacist); Navigating Uncharted Waters (Emerging Fields in Pharmacy Practice), and Overcoming the Challenges a Pharmacist Deals with in Staying Relevant in the 21st Century.

Appreciating the efforts of  all participants towards the success of the Madonna University 2019 PANS Students’ Week, the PANS President, Faculty of Pharmacy, Madonna University, Sunrise Ndah, expressed his gratitude to the Dean, Faculty of Pharmacy, Madonna University Nigeria, Prof. Nze Aguwa Cletus and associate Dean Pharm. Mrs Ogah for their indispensable leadership to the foundation and training of pharmacists in the faculty.

“We have received the greatest benefits any student can imagine from our studies and I cannot imagine any possible way to truly express my appreciation for what you have done and what I look forward to in the nearest future. With your leadership, we are inducting over 150 pharmacists every year, and another applauding performance is the full accreditation Faculty of Pharmacy Madonna University Nigeria received from Pharmacy Council of Nigeria (PCN).

“ Sirs you are simply amazing. At this juncture, I especially thank all our competent lecturers both part time and full time and administrators at the Faculty of Pharmacy, some of you constitute members of the high table, motivational and outstanding speakers, the panel of judges and played vital roles during this Students Week”, he remarked

Ndah also thanked members of the various organising committees for their efforts and sacrifices towards the hosting of the 2019 Student’s Week. They include: Dispensers League Organising Committee, Symposium Organising Committee; and Decathlon Organising Committee.
