The Nigerian Association of Pharmacists and Pharmaceutical Scientists in the Americas (NAPPSA) has announced that menopause and women’s health will be the central focus of its 2026 Annual Charity Ball, scheduled for 11 July, 2026.
The flagship fundraising event is expected to bring together pharmacists, healthcare leaders, corporate sponsors, policymakers, and community advocates to support initiatives aimed at improving health outcomes for women in Nigeria and the United States.
The NAPPSA President, Dr Kunle Tometi, in a statement shared with Pharmanewsonline, said the annual Charity Ball serves as both a celebration of the association’s achievements and a strategic platform for raising funds, increasing awareness, and showcasing the impact of pharmacist-led healthcare interventions in underserved communities. The event also provides an opportunity to strengthen partnerships and mobilize resources for sustainable health programmes,
“This year’s focus on menopause and women’s health reflects growing concerns about gaps in education, access to care, and continuity of treatment for women experiencing menopause and related health challenges. These include hormonal changes, cardiovascular risks, bone health issues, and medication management concerns that often go underdiagnosed and undertreated,” he stated.
Dr Tometi noted that more than 25 million Nigerian women are within the menopausal age group, yet many lack access to reliable information, appropriate healthcare services, and trained healthcare professionals equipped to address their needs.
To help bridge this gap, he disclosed that the association plans to launch a pharmacist-led initiative that will train 100 pharmacists across two cities during the first year of the program. The initiative is designed to strengthen frontline healthcare services, improve patient outcomes, and expand access to evidence-based menopause and women’s health education.
As part of the effort, Tometi said NAPPSA aims to raise at least $100,000 through the Charity Ball to support pharmacist training, community outreach, patient education, and other women’s health interventions.
Association leaders say the programme will empower women through pharmacist-led counselling, education, and community-based support services that promote symptom management, medication adherence, preventive care, and improved quality of life.
By prioritising menopause and women’s health, NAPPSA hopes to address a significant public health need while creating meaningful opportunities for healthcare partners, sponsors, and community stakeholders to contribute to lasting improvements in women’s healthcare.
He said the association is inviting individuals, organisations, and corporate partners to support the initiative and join its efforts to expand access to quality menopause and women’s healthcare services in both Nigeria and the United States
