The Nigeria Association of Pharmacists in Academia (NAPA) recently conferred Professional Excellence Awards on Pharm. (Sir) Ifeanyi Atueyi, publisher of Pharmanews, Pharm. Bukky George, managing director/ CEO of HealthPlus Limited, as well as other notable personalities in the pharmaceutical industry, in recognition of their selfless and professional services towards the advancement of the Nigerian pharmaceutical sector.
The award presentation was part of the programmes for the 18th NAPA National Scientific Conference, which held from 24 to 26 August 2020.
At the opening ceremony of the conference, Sir Atueyi was bestowed with the Professional Excellence Award in Pharmaceutical Journalism, while Pharm. George was conferred with the Professional Excellence Award in Community Pharmacy Practice.
Receiving the award, Atueyi expressed appreciation to NAPA, saying lightheartedly, that the award was an indication that he had not expired as he had thought.
“I appreciate NAPA because you make me look younger and you make me to realise that I am not expired yet and that I still have much to offer,” the elated Atueyi said.
Pharm. George also thanked NAPA for the award, while promising to continue to contribute to the growth of the industry. She dedicated the award to HealthPlus staff.
Other beneficiaries of the NAPA award were Pharmacist Vincent Okore, who bagged the association’s Academic Leadership Award; Pharmacist (Dr.) Otakho Daniel Orumwense (Professional Excellence Award in Hospital Pharmacy Practice); and Pharmacist Ignatius Anukwu (Professional Excellence Award in Industrial Pharmacy practice).
Similarly, Emeritus Prof. Ajibola A. Olaniyi was bestowed with the association’s Leadership Award. Olaniyi turned 80 years on August 25, 2020.
