The National Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) has called for the immediate reinstatement of five resident doctors recently sacked by the management of the Federal Teaching Hospital (FTH), Lokoja, describing their dismissal as unjust and unacceptable.
In a show of solidarity, the NARD President, Dr Mohammad Usman Suleiman, alongside the Secretary General, Treasurer, and Chief of Staff to the President, paid a visit to the Association of Resident Doctors (ARD), FTH Lokoja, to identify with the affected members and the entire congress.
During the visit, Dr. Suleiman reaffirmed NARD’s unwavering commitment to the welfare and rights of resident doctors across the country. He emphasised that the association will not stand idly by while its members are treated unfairly, insisting that the reinstatement of the five doctors is both “a matter of urgency and fairness that cannot be overemphasised.”
In a statement issued after the visit, NARD expressed deep concern over the dismissals, warning that failure to reinstate the affected doctors before the expiration of its 30-day ultimatum could lead to a breakdown of industrial harmony in the health sector.
NARD reiterated its call for the Federal Ministry of Health and relevant authorities to intervene promptly, stressing that victimisation of medical professionals for legitimate causes of action undermines morale and endangers the nation’s already strained healthcare system.
The association maintained that it remains open to dialogue but will not hesitate to take appropriate action should its demands be ignored.
