Pharm. Farouk A. Salim

The newly appointed Director General of Standards Organisation of Nigeria, SON, Pharm. Farouk A. Salim, will be resuming in his new office on 26 September 2020.

This information was contained in his letter of appointment dated 21 August, 2020, which states that his four-year term of appointment takes effect from 26 September 2020.

Salim, who takes over from the former DG, Mr Osita Aboloma, is a graduate of Pharmacy, from the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, Kaduna, 1980-1985.

An accomplished clinical pharmacist who has practiced nationally and internationally, Salim bagged his MBA from the Washington University, St. louis, Missouri, USA, 1997-1999.

He commenced his career at the Nigerian Air Force Medical Centre, Benin City in 1986, where he had his National Youth Service Corps.

After completing his NYSC, Salim joined the Nassarawa Hospital, Kano, Nigeria, as a hospital pharmacist in 1987, from where he advanced to GlaxoSmithKline Lagos, Nigeria as a medical representative.

Thereafter, he left the shores of Nigeria to practice abroad when he resumed as a clinical pharmacist at the  DePaul Health Center, Bridgeton, Missouri.

His work experience abroad further spanned from Group Health Plan St. Louis, MO, as a                     staff pharmacist & allergy specialist; Velocity RPh Weldon Spring, Missouri, as a consultant partner; Metro RPh Alton, Illinois, consultant pharmacist and Barnes-Jewish Hospital, St. Louis, Missouri, clinical pharmacist.

An astute healthcare practitioner, Salim is a member of different professional bodies including:  Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria; registered with the  Pharmacists Council of Nigeria (PCN) and  Missouri Pharmacy Board, United States.

Though a committed professional, Salim has also held various positions in  political circles such as Deputy National Chairman, APC- USA;  Member, Mobilization Committee of APC Presidential Campaign 2015; Secretary, Congress Appeals Committee for APC, Kwara State, 2014; Chairman, Registration Committee for APC, Kogi State, 2014; Chief Protocol Officer, CPC (Congress for Progressive Change) Presidential Campaign 2010; and Spearhead, Buhari Presidential campaign in the USA since 2013.
