Nigeria Records 4 Deaths, 593 New Confirmed Cases of COVID-19, Total 50,488

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), in its daily update posted on its website, said there were 593 new cases taking the total number of recorded cases to 50,488, NCDC said these had led to 985 deaths in 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.

Making the disclosure via its Twitter handle, the NCDC said: “As at 11:10 pm 19th of August 2020, 593 new confirmed cases and 4 deaths were recorded in Nigeria.


To date, 50,488 cases have been confirmed, 37,304 cases have been discharged and 985 deaths have been recorded in 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory. A total of 363,331 tests have been carried out as of August 19th, 2020 compared to 355,196 tests a day earlier.

According to the NCDC, the 593 new cases are reported from 16 states- Plateau (186), Lagos (172), FCT (62), Oyo (27), Delta (25), Rivers (20), Ondo (19), Edo (18), Kaduna (17), Enugu (12), Akwa Ibom (10), Ogun (7), Abia (6), Gombe (6), Kano (3) and Osun (3).

Meanwhile, the latest numbers bring Lagos state total confirmed cases to 17,092, followed by Abuja (4,837), Oyo (3,007), Edo (2,475), Plateau (2,043), Rivers (2,027), Kaduna (1,882), Kano (1,683), Delta (1,671), Ogun (1,587), Ondo (1,482), Enugu (1,025), Ebonyi (943), Kwara (913), Osun (757), Katsina (746), Abia (713), Borno (706), Gombe (684), and Bauchi (607).
