Nigeria Records 51 New Cases of COVID-19, 17 Deaths, Total 493

The surge in new cases of the novel Coronavirus took a drastic dimension on Friday night, as the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) has just announced 51 new cases and increase in deaths from 13 to 17.

With the 51 new cases, Nigeria now has a total of 493 cases, 159 recoveries, and 17 deaths.

Making the disclosure via its Twitter handle, the NCDC said: “As at 10:10 pm 17th April 2020, there are 493 confirmed cases of #COVID19 reported in Nigeria”.

While Lagos is still leading with 283 confirmed cases, it is followed by FCT with 69 cases, then Kano has 27, Osun- 20, Edo-15,Oyo- 15, Ogun- 10, Kwara- 9,Katsina- 9, Bauchi- 6,.Kaduna- 6, Akwa Ibom- 6, Delta- 4, Ondo- 3, Ekiti- 3, Enugu- 2, Rivers-2, Niger- 2, Benue- 1 and Anambra-1.

Meanwhile, the sudden increase in the number of deaths from 13 to 17 within 24 hours has called for worry from some quarters, while they have called for more pungent measures from governments to curb the spread.

One of the concerned citizens on Twitter named : Titi Dapo said: “It’s worrisome as the number of coronavirus cases is intensifying every day, the government needs to do better in curb corona.

“As we are critically confronting uphill, this is a period we need to see ourselves as one Nigeria and financially support each other”.
