Nigeria's Death Toll from COVID-19 Exceeds 800

Nigeria’s cumulative fatalities from the novel Coronavirus has surpassed 800, the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, NCDC has said.

The NCDC’s daily update on the infection as at Tuesday night shows Nigeria has 576 new confirmed cases, which put total number of cases at 37801.

Giving the update via its verified Twitter handle, the health agency disclosed that the 576 new infections were recorded from 22 states, with 4 deaths.

It further revealed that 15677 infected persons have since recovered and have been discharged since the outbreak of the disease in Nigeria.

The agency stated that a multi-sectoral national emergency operations centre (EOC),was  activated at Level 3, and continues to coordinate the national response activities.

It tweeted thus: On the 21st of July 2020, 576 new confirmed cases and 4 deaths were recorded in Nigeria

“Till date, 37801 cases have been confirmed, 15677 cases have been discharged and 805 deaths have been recorded in 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory”, it disclosed.

Lagos, Kwara and Plateau top the list of 22 states with new infections, with 88, 87 and 62 cases respectively.

They are closely followed by Ondo -39, Enugu -28, Oyo -26, Taraba -24, Kaduna -20, Ebonyi -20,  Edo -17, Cross River-6, Kano -14, Rivers -11.and Ogun -10.

Other states with new cases are : Delta -9, Nasarawa  and Osun with 8 cases each, Katsina -3, Imo -2, Kebbi and Borno 1 infections each.
