NiMet Forecasts Dust Haze, Sunny Skies for three Days

The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has forecast varying weather conditions across the country from Thursday to Saturday, urging the public to take precautions where necessary. In a weather outlook released on Wednesday, the agency predicted that on Friday, the Northern regions would experience sunny skies in a hazy atmosphere.

For the North-Central regions, it projected moderate dust haze with horizontal visibility ranging from two to five kilometers during the forecast period.

For the Southern parts of the country, including some parts of Akwa Ibom, Cross River, and Delta, the agency reports that hazy conditions with patches of clouds are anticipated, alongside early morning fog and mist.

Providing further insights to Saturday outlook, it predicted sunny skies in a hazy atmosphere over the northern and North-Central regions as before. The Southern regions, however, are expected to see hazy conditions with patches of clouds, alongside early morning thunderstorms in parts of Akwa Ibom, Cross River, and Delta states. Also expecting thunderstorm in the same region later in the day.

NiMet cautioned the public about the potential health implications of suspended dust particles in the air, advising people with respiratory issues, including asthma, to exercise caution. The agency further warned of strong winds that might precede thunderstorms in some areas and urged residents to adhere to safety guidelines issued by relevant authorities.

Airline operators were encouraged to obtain specific weather reports from NiMet to ensure the safety of their operations. The agency also called on residents to stay updated with weather information by visiting its official website.
