The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has predicted slight to moderate dust haze across parts of Northern Nigeria, including Borno and Yobe States, with heavier concentrations of dust expected in the North compared to other regions of the country.

According to the agency’s latest weather outlook, visibility is likely to be reduced in affected northern states due to suspended dust particles. Residents are advised to exercise caution, particularly during the early morning and late evening hours when haze conditions may be more severe.

In the southern region, NiMet projected slim chances of morning thunderstorms over parts of Akwa Ibom and Cross River States, while thunderstorms accompanied by light rainfall are expected in parts of Ondo, Ogun, Lagos, Edo, Bayelsa, Cross River, Rivers, Delta, and Akwa Ibom States as the day progresses.

The agency further warned that the thunderstorms may be accompanied by gusty winds, which could pose risks such as falling tree branches, reduced visibility, and disruptions to outdoor activities. Residents are therefore urged to remain vigilant and take necessary safety precautions.

NiMet also advised individuals with respiratory conditions, including asthma, to take appropriate measures due to the dusty conditions in the northern region. Motorists are encouraged to drive cautiously, especially in areas experiencing reduced visibility or rainfall. Airline operators were equally advised to obtain airport-specific weather information from NiMet to ensure effective operational planning.

The agency emphasised the importance of staying updated with daily weather forecasts to better prepare for changing atmospheric conditions across the country.
