The Association of Community Pharmacists of Nigeria (ACPN), Oyo State Chapter, has named an Ibadan-based philanthropist and Chief Executive Officer, Ilaji Hotels and Sports Resorts, Engr Dotun Sanusi as her grand patron. This was even as over five hundred residents of Akanran and its environs in Ibadan, Oyo State benefitted from free medical outreach organised by the association.

Speaking at the investiture ceremony of the new grand patron, which began with health outreach, the chairman of the association in the state, Pharm. Adebayo Gbadamosi, noted that Engr Sanusi was conferred with the Grand Patron title, for his support towards rural development, national development, and rural dwellers.

According to the ACPN boss, the association in her quest to continue to deliver quality healthcare services to the citizens of Oyo State is collaborating with well-meaning indigenes and people with interest in community development, so as to further drive the benefits of community pharmacists to the people at the grassroots.

He added that the association in her search for a rare personality as her grand patron found Engr Sanusi, a unique personality with a deep interest in developing his people at the grassroots, a community man that always seeks the advancement and support for the less privileged, downtrodden, advocate of physically challenged and a philanthropist.

Speaking further on the choice of the new grand patron, Gbdamosi noted that Chief Sanusi, an illustrious son of Ibadan is the owner of Ilaji Hotels and Sports Resort, a sprawling edifice and a palatial resort with hundreds of rooms for out-of-town rejuvenation, retreat, gaming, sporting events, house to over 300 youths in her Football Academy, adding that he is a man who has a deep interest in developing his people at the grassroots.

While delivering a keynote address, the National Chairman, ACPN, Pharm Adewale Oladigbolu, noted that pharmacy practice goes beyond owning a drugstore for business purposes known as drug seller or dealer, but a professional service that encompasses all manner of care, adding that functions of pharmacists include handling of drugs, public health, drug quality control, diagnosis, research, sourcing raw materials for drug production among others.

He, therefore, appealed to the newly decorated grand patron, Chief Sansui, to assist the association to make headway in the lopsided political appointments in government ministries, departments and agencies in order to have input in public health policy.

 

 

In his remark, Chief Sanusi thanked the association for fishing him out based on his numerous community-led activities and stated that he has accepted the responsibilities that go with such an honour, adding that he will use his personal network to advocate for the recognition of community pharmacists in the state and ensure the profession is accorded her due place of recognition. He further disclosed that he was delighted to accept the honour because the association is focused on grassroots which is always dear to him.

Speaking on the personality of Engr Sanusi, Pharm. Azeez Gbolagade, managing director, Ajoke Pharm Limited, who was his roommate at the University of Ibadan, noted that he is a unique personality, who has a deep interest in developing his people at the grassroots, adding that he will contribute in no small way to the aspiration and services of the association.

 

Other dignitaries at the event include Pharm. Adegboyega Oguntoye, chairman, PSN, Oyo State; Pharm. Abiodun Gbadamosi, immediate past chairman, ACPN Oyo State; Pharm. (Mrs) Hamida Atere Akeukere, secretary; Pharm. Chief Hamidu Oluyedun; Pharm. Abiodun Ajibade, and Pharm. Taofik Odukoya among others.
