The Anambra State Government has called on investors to participate in the The Anambra Pharmaceutical Manufacturing Park in Ogboji. The government, led by Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Charles Soludo GCFR, says it is part of state’s plan to make quality medicines available in the state.
According to a release made available to pharmanewsonline.com, the Governor of Anambra State nurtured the idea to develop medium and high-tech industrial parks in the state, and the result is the Anambra Pharmaceutical Manufacturing Park. The Pharma Park is a condensed, contemporary pharmaceutical industrial park that will house service providers, support service providers, and pharmaceutical companies of various sizes sharing infrastructure and workstations.
Speaking, the governor said: “We’ll actively look for forward-thinking businesses to establish a home in our industrial parks. Anambra will help them become more competitive by assisting in lowering operating costs and significantly enhancing their ease of doing business, he claimed.
“Due to disrupted medicine supply chains and delayed delivery of vital medications and vaccines to those in need, the COVID-19 pandemic brought to light Africa’s reliance on the West for pharmaceuticals and other health-care supplies.
“Now is the ideal moment to make an investment in the Anambra Pharmaceutical Manufacturing Park. Vendors and investors with experience in areas like road building and drainage system installation, water supply system development and installation, power supply and clean energy system installation, waste and effluent treatment system installation, IT infrastructure and communication systems, residential, office, and conference centers, schools, shopping malls, medical and hospital facilities, and recreational and sports facilities are the ones targeted by the call for Expressions of Interest (EOI)”.
The release read further: “Investors in the park stand to gain a lot of benefits. These include reduced costs of manufacturing medicines and health products, thereby maximizing profit margins, access to a thriving market, favourable government support, the creation of resilient and sustainable medicine supply chains, a collaborative ecosystem among investors, industry professionals, and other stakeholders, regulatory compliance, and access to regional and international markets”.
Speaking on the benefits of the Anambra Pharmaceutical Manufacturing Park, Ogboji, Dr Afam Obidike, commissioner for health, Anambra State said ‘’the mandate is to make Anambra the Pharmaceutical Headquarters of Africa by developing a Pharmaceutical ecosystem that is not only economically viable and sustainable but also investor friendly and attractive. Approval process to elevate the status of the Pharma Park to Economic Processing Zone (EPZ) with all the accruing benefits is at an advanced stage. Not only that, but Anambra State, has also completed the concept stage for another Airport within five kilometres to the Pharma Park. The results: Robust economy, nationwide drug security, jobs, jobs, and jobs”.
Additionally, the Senior Special Adviser to the Executive Governor of Anambra State on Medicals and Pharmaceuticals, Dr Godwin Nnadozie, said the park will provide a prime location for pharmaceutical companies to establish their operations and capitalize on the African pharmaceutical value chain, thanks to its strategic location and dependable amenities.
Bloom Public Health is the technical consultant to the government of Anambra State on this landmark project. The CEO of Bloom Public Health, Professor Chimezie Anyakora, is absolutely thrilled about this project, as it will address the issue of medicine security and anticipate an even accelerated development of the park as works begin in earnest.
