The Pharmacy Council of Nigeria (PCN) has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of one of the most respected figures in Nigeria’s pharmaceutical and healthcare sector, Pharm. (Sir) Ifeanyi Atueyi, the founder and CEO of Pharmanews.

In a heartfelt condolence message signed by the Registrar and CEO of the Council, Pharm. Ibrahim Babashehu Ahmed, the PCN described Atueyi as “a visionary, trailblazer, and relentless advocate for the advancement of the Pharmacy profession and healthcare in Nigeria.”

Pharm. Ahmed referred to the late Atueyi, as a revered icon of pharmaceutical journalism and healthcare development, who dedicated his life to professional excellence and ethical advocacy. Through his pioneering work with Pharmanews, the PCN registrar noted that Atueyi championed knowledge dissemination, mentorship, and professional discourse for over four decades.

“The loss is not only to his family but to the entire Pharmacy profession, the healthcare industry, and indeed the nation at large,” the Council stated. “He lived a purpose-driven life and made an indelible mark through his words, actions, and commitment to service.”

The PCN registrar particularly acknowledged Atueyi’s longstanding support, including his generous provision of a dedicated column in Pharmanews for PCN to address regulatory issues, as well as consistent coverage of the Council’s activities, all offered without charge.

His efforts, the Ahmed remarked, greatly contributed to strengthening the regulatory framework and elevating the standards of Pharmacy practice in Nigeria.

“May his gentle soul rest in perfect peace,” the PCN registrar concluded.
