It was an exciting and amazing moment for Dr John Nwaiwu, chairman/chief executive officer of JB Pharmaceuticals Ltd, as the management of Pharmanews Limited organised a surprised 70th birthday for him on Wednesday, at the Pharmanews corporate head office, in Mende, Maryland, Lagos.
Nwaiwu, who is the chairman of Pharmacy Tower Committee, was on a courtesy visit to Pharmanews with his team, to seek media support towards the fund-raising for the capital intensive project.
Congratulating him on his attainment of 70 years of age, the Managing Director, Pharmanews Limited, Sir Ifeanyi Atueyi acknowledged the fast movement of the JB boss, but charged him to move faster, because he himself will clock 80 years in three months’ time, by 1 October 2019.
In his response, Nwaiwu, expressed his profound gratitude to the Pharmanews boss for the impromptu birthday celebration, saying he was happy to join the league of septuagenarians, like Atueyi, and other senior citizens in Pharmacy.
Dr Nwaiwu, a native of Umuoti Inyishi Ikeduru Local Government Area of Imo state, is a renowned pharmacist, and Fellow of the Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria (FPSN), Fellow of the Nigeria Academy of Pharmacy (FNAPharm) and a member of the International Pharmaceutical Federation (FIP).
Following his immense contribution to the pharmaceutical profession, he has won to his credit, different national and international awards and membership of many national and international professional societies.
Nwaiwu had a meritorious career at the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), where he retired as Deputy Comptroller General. During his time at the NCS, he was a member of the Nigerian delegate to Washington DC on Nigeria-USA agreement on Africa Growth and Opportunity Act (AGOA); Member, Nigerian delegate to Algeria on Nigeria-Algeria Bi-lateral agreement, among others.
In attendance at the surprise birthday celebration were: Pharm. Ade Popoola, managing director, Reals Pharmaceuticals; Pharm. Gbenga Falabi; Pharm. Kennedy Izunwa; and Lady Joan Atueyi.
