It was a night where prestige met purpose, a celebration that fused recognition with reflection. The Society for Pharmaceutical Sales and Marketing of Nigeria (SPSMN) rolled out the red carpet to honour the nation’s finest pharma sales and marketing professionals at its 2025 Annual Award Night, themed “Pharma Sales and Marketing in Nigeria: Celebrating Excellence and Impact.”

Held at Aotel Hotel and Suites, Ikeja, the event drew the industry’s leading lights, from executives and brand strategists to regional sales champions and rising marketing talents. The evening underscored not just the triumphs of individuals, but the collective resilience of a sector that remains integral to Nigeria’s healthcare architecture.

Chaired by Pharm. Valentine Ezeiru, CEO of Oculus Pharmacare Limited, and graced by Dr Lolu Ojo, CEO of Merit Healthcare, who served as guest of honour, the ceremony became a mirror reflecting the evolving dynamism of Nigeria’s pharmaceutical marketing ecosystem — one that increasingly rewards innovation, ethics, and measurable impact.

In his opening remarks, Pharm. Tunde Oyeniran, president of SPSMN, reaffirmed the society’s commitment to recognising and rewarding “changemakers and outstanding performers who have transformed the sales and marketing segment of Nigeria’s pharmaceutical landscape.” He described the award night as more than a ceremonial event — a declaration of intent to professionalise and dignify an industry that often works quietly behind the scenes of healthcare delivery.

“The professionals we are celebrating tonight are not merely driving sales; they are driving access — connecting communities to lifesaving medicines and shaping public trust in pharmaceutical brands,” Oyeniran said, drawing applause from an audience of peers and industry veterans.

For Pharm. Ezeiru, the significance of the event lies in the credibility the SPSMN continues to build within the pharmaceutical community. “Those found worthy of these honours should count themselves fortunate,” he noted. “The SPSMN is fast establishing itself as a reputable institution, a benchmark for professionalism in pharmaceutical marketing.”

Delivering his keynote charge, Dr Ojo urged sales and marketing professionals to harness the SPSMN platform to showcase their talents, exchange ideas, and foster an ethically grounded marketing culture. “Sales is not merely about numbers,” he declared. “It is about relationships, integrity, and the understanding that every bottle, blister pack, or brand you promote is ultimately a covenant with human life.”

Yet, one moment defined the night, when Pharmanews Limited, Nigeria’s foremost pharmaceutical publication, clinched the coveted “Pharma Marketing Publication of the Year” Award. The recognition, met with a standing ovation, underscored Pharmanews’ enduring legacy as the voice of the Nigerian pharmaceutical industry, a publication that has chronicled, shaped, and elevated conversations around healthcare marketing for over four decades.

The honour was widely regarded as a fitting tribute to Pharmanews’ consistency, thought leadership, and its role as a unifying medium for professionals across the pharmaceutical value chain. In a sector where information integrity is as vital as product quality, the publication’s influence continues to inspire both new entrants and established players.

A solemn minute of silence was also observed in honour of the publication’s late founder, Sir Ifeanyi Atueyi, who transitioned to glory on 15 July, 2025. His pioneering vision and unwavering dedication to ethical health journalism were fondly remembered as a guiding light that continues to define Pharmanews’ legacy.

Other award recipients reflected the diversity of excellence across the industry. Ojukwu Rita Amarachukwu emerged as SPSMN Regional Manager (East), while Timothy Osameyan of Fidson Healthcare Plc – North 3 was named Regional Manager (North). Tom Mary Bassey, also of Fidson, won Sales Representative of the Year, and Adaobi Goodness Onwujiobi of Sun Pharma clinched Medical Sales Representative of the Year.

Anuoluwapo Adenuga, the creative force behind Astyfer at Fidson Healthcare, received the Product Manager of the Year award, while Salonpas, by Hisamitsu Nigeria, was named OTC Brand of the Year.

In the leadership category, Mr Sammy Ogunjimi, CEO of Codix Healthcare Ltd, was crowned Pharma CEO of the Year, while Peace Drugs Limited of Ilorin not only won Distributor of the Year (West) but also took home the coveted title of National Distributor of the Year.

Regional distribution honours went to Roseline Pharmaceuticals (Aba), KUKA Medicals (Kano), and New Height Pharmaceuticals (Ilupeju). The prestigious Marketing and Sales Lifetime Platinum Awards were bestowed upon Pharm. Bartholomew Siju Adejumo and Mr Ola Oloke, both celebrated for their pioneering contributions to the evolution of pharmaceutical marketing in Nigeria.

By the close of the evening, it was evident that the SPSMN had achieved more than an evening of glamour. It had reaffirmed a creed — that behind every successful pharmaceutical brand lies a network of diligent marketers, visionary leaders, and credible platforms such as Pharmanews, ensuring that the story of medicine in Nigeria is not merely about healing the body, but sustaining the industry that makes healing possible.

In the words of one participant, “This was not just an award night; it was a celebration of those who sell health with integrity.”
