As part of its corporate social responsibility and in its quest to further encourage the agency in complementing the efforts of Lagos State Government, Seagreen Pharmaceutical Nigeria Limited, has donated drugs worth about 500,000 naira to the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority LASTMA.
Presenting the items including branded jotters, biros and T-shirts to the General Manager of the Agency, Engr. Jide Oduyoye, in his office in Lagos, the General Manager, Seagreen Pharmaceutical Nigeria Limited, Dr Ikenna Enwelunta, explained the gesture was part of the company’s corporate social responsibility, adding that the contribution of LASTMA officials at ensuring that Lagos roads are traffic-free has been unprecedented, saying to whom much is given, much is expected.
Enwelunta, who said it took the action because of the risk LASTMA officials were exposed to in road traffic management, described the donation to LASTMA as a worthy humanitarian cause, saying the firm is looking forward to many more partnerships that revolve around the healthcare of Nigerians.
According to him, it chooses LASTMA out of several agencies because of their activities as well as their contributions to the state, adding that it is an organisation that should be encouraged and assisted.
“There is no doubt their contribution is felt in the society, especially in the transport sector in a state like Lagos, with our intimidating population. If one could observe these people in the sun and in the rain, standing from morning till night in their quest to ensure there is a free flow of traffic, one will have no option than to agree that they should be motivated and encouraged, hence our reason for coming here today, so as to reach them, partner with them and find a way of making their work easier and smoother”, he said.
For the Head, Sales, and Marketing, Seagreen Pharmaceutical Limited, Mr Adelodun Adeniyi Wasiu, Seagreen is committed to enhancing the health and wellness status of the Nigerian society, adding that the company long to see a Nigeria where everyone has access to basic essential medicines regardless of their socio-economic status.
Speaking on the rationale behind the donation to LASTMA, he said the company decided to donate the items, which included packs of Gvither Plus, Arthermeter-Lumefantrine, its brand of the anti-malaria drug, Bafama, Triple Action Cream, and Radiklo, diclofenac 50mg, and 100mg, as well as t-shirts, biros, and jotters to give back to the agency that has done so much, adding that one of the key mitochondria of the state is LASTMA, as they take a lot of risk on behalf of the citizens.
In his response, Oduyoye, commended Seagreen for deeming it fit to partner with the agency through the donation of drugs and other materials, stating that there is no better time to receive such good gesture than now, as the period we are in now is a very delicate period, with pandemic doing its own, and other health challenges across the country.
Oduyoye, who was represented by Mr Salami Abiodun, director of admin and human resources said the global health crisis requires partnership and participation of all, saying government alone cannot tackle the challenge.
“As LASTMA officials, we are prone to contracting diseases of any nature because of our day-to-day activities, which necessitates interacting with the citizens physically, either through hand sake, breathing, mingling, and others. As we usually have direct contact with people on daily basis, it makes us vulnerable, as there is a high tendency that majority of our officials may contract one disease or another, so the management team cannot thank you enough for this good gesture”
Speaking in the same vein, the duo of Mrs Morayo Sarah Ojeniyi, director of welfare, and Mrs Olonilua Olayinka, chief nursing officer, LASTMA commended Seagreen for the good gesture, adding that the agency would not relent in its effort to serve the society and ensure Lagos is traffic-free.
