Sultan of Sokoto Confers Traditional Title on Professor Mora

The Sultan of Sokoto and President, Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs in Nigeria (SCIA), Sa’ad Abubakar has recently turbaned the Chairman, Pharmacists Council of Nigeria (PCN), Professor Ahmed Tijjani Mora, as the Kayayen Sarkin Musulmi.

The turbaning ceremony took place at the Sultan’s palace, in the ancient city of Sokoto and seat of the caliphate, as reported by the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).

The event was a unique one which, offered its most famous traditional honour and hospitality to Mora, making it the first of its kind in the history of the caliphate.

In his address at the ceremony, the Sultan charged the new title holder to remain committed to the course of strengthening the administrative roles and responsibilities of the caliphate, to humanity.

Abubakar said that the event was historic as it retraced the footprints of the late Othman Dan Fodiyo’s purposeful legacies.

“Your turbaning is a great honour and opportunity to serve the society and the entire Sokoto caliphate. Because of this, I expect all of you to shoulder the responsibilities with dedication and commitment.

“It is our humble belief that you would assist in achieving a favourable and rewarding Ramadan in peace and for the benefit of Muslims, while keeping people closer to the caliphate.

“Moreover, people should continue to pray for the turbaned, to enable them deliver the responsibilities shouldered on all of them,” he said.

Abubakar also called on Nigerians to sustain their prayers for the leaders, to enable them address all the security challenges attacking some parts of the country.

Appreciating the Sultan of Sokoto for the honour bestowed on him, Mora said it would motivate him to do more for his state and the country.

According to the PCN Chairman, the regulatory body is taking measures to assist members in getting their products certified. He noted that, as healthcare practitioners, pharmacists are licensed to manufacture and distribute drugs across the country.

Efforts, he added, are on to increase the production of hand sanitisers and other medical remedies for checking the spread of the Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19).

“We have received report from our members in various university faculties and firms on challenges they are facing in getting certification from the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC),” he said.

He said the council has resolved to intensify its regulatory activities, adding that since 2019, 20 pharmacists have been brought before the disciplinary committee on charges of unprofessional conduct.

The committee of friends, colleagues and teachers of Professor Mora sent their congratulatory messages to him while wishing him the best on his new role.
