UNILAG PANS President Visits Pharmanews, Seeks Support

Towards the commencement of the Annual UNILAG PANS Week, the President of the Pharmaceutical Association of Nigerian Students (PANS), University of Lagos (UNILAG) Chapter, Opeyemi Salami, has paid a courtesy visit to the Managing Director, Pharmanews Limited, Sir Ifeanyi Atueyi, to intimate him with the programmes for the week as well as seek financial support for the success of the event.

Salami, during the visit, which took place at the company’s corporate head office in Lagos, briefed Sir Atueyi on the achievements of his administration as well as their upcoming PANS Week.

He recalled their discussion on 30 March, 2022, when the UNILAG PANS Executives visited Sir Atueyi, at the commencement of his tenure, and the Pharmanews publisher’s statement on the necessity of presenting a proposal to him ahead of their PANS Week.

He said: “We visited you in March 2022 in preparation for our PANS Week which didn’t hold due to the ASUU strike, where you asked us to prepare a proposal when we are ready. Now, as our patron, we feel the need to let you know of our upcoming activities and also list the various achievements of this present administration.

“So far, we have been able to construct the first ever emblem with a fountain in the Faculty of Pharmacy, which is yet to be launched. Also, our Dean took 3rd position in the 2022 Dean of the Year competition; we now have a Mentor-Mentee Programme for 200 and 300 level Pharmacy students; and for our Sports Week, we have established “Pharma-Lympics” with the goal of getting everybody fit.

“Unto our Annual PANS Week, which is the flagship of our administration, the theme for this year is: ‘Pharma Evolution: Finding Relevance as a 21st Century Pharmacist beyond the Lecture Room’. For this, we plan to invite people from different sectors of Pharmacy to come and speak to Pharmacy students for five days.”

Highlighting the details of the event, the PANS President said: “Day one is going to be the Pharmacy awareness rally; Day two is for quiz and debate competition; Day three is for the symposium where justice would be given to the theme of this year’s PANS Week; Day four is our lecturer appreciation day; Day five is the traditional day; Day six day is for community health outreach; and the last thing for the week is our Face of Pharmacy.”

In his response, the Pharmanews boss attested to being a strong supporter of PANS from inception, because the first friends Pharmanews Journal made were Pharmacy students, when it began in 1979.

“For this year PANS Week, we shall see areas of interest specific to Pharmanews that we can participate in. First, we shall be giving publicity to your activities and then we shall identify one or two areas that we can support financially.

In her contribution, the Online Editor, Pharmanews,  Mrs Temitope Obayendo, appreciated the PANS President for the visit and further advised him on adequate preparation  for the week- long activity, in order to prevent any disappointment  from invited guests and also from their own end.
