…As Akeredolu, Kwankwaso, Urhogide, others bag ACPN awards
The Registrar, Pharmacists Council of Nigeria (PCN), Dr Elijah Mohammed, has called on community pharmacists in the country to ensure adequate use of their potentials, saying there are many untapped potentials of practitioners that need to be well enhanced
He noted that there is a need for community pharmacists to be involved in public health intervention programmes, adding that the emergence of pharmaceutical care and collaborative drug therapy management which is globally practiced are other areas.
“The current corona pandemic is also a good example, and I commend the community pharmacists for the professional role they have demonstrated so far in various ways to contain COVID-19 pandemic,” he said.
He continued: “The effective use of information and technology system to share ideas on approach to healthcare issues and distribution of essential drugs and commodities, using the system approach, is an area community pharmacists can tap into for more effective delivery, and this can only be achieved through concerted effort”.
However, in appreciation of their commitment and support to pharmacists and pharmaceutical activities in the country, the leadership of the Association of the Community Pharmacists of Nigeria (ACPN) has honoured five eminent personalities with different categories of awards.
Leading the group of recipients was the duo of Governor Rotimi Akeredolu, the executive governor of Ondo State, and Senator Rabi’u Kwankwaso, former governor of Kano State.
While others were Sen. (Pharm.) Matthew Uroghide, chairman, Senate Public Account Committee; Senator Sadiq Umar, and late Chief. Rufus Foluso Giwa, the late Ondo business mogul and philanthropist.
The colourful ceremony which took place recently during the 39th Annual National Conference of the ACPN at the International Conference Centre, Abuja had several distinguished pharmacists and other professionals (within and outside the country) in attendance.
Presenting the awards, the Registrar, PCN, Dr Mohammed congratulated all the recipients adding that they have all demonstrated their pharmacy support, and have equally paid their dues to the development of the country.
While appreciating the ACPN on behalf of other award recipients, the Ondo State governor, Mr Akeredolu, noted that the award would further propel them to do better for humanity, adding that good work deserves commendation.
