The Minister of Health, Dr Osagie Ehanire has recently disclosed that 113 Nigerian health workers have tested positive for Coronavirus.
The Minister revealed this while fielding questions from journalists at the daily Presidential Task Force briefing on COVID-19, Thursday 30 April 2020.
Ehanire said the infected health workers represent about 6 per cent of the total 1,728 infected persons in the country.
“Latest figures we have is that there are about 113 people in the health sector infected with COVID-19. Although they are not all public health workers, there are good numbers from private hospitals” Ehanire explained.
“If you hear us speaking here frequently against trying to treat Coronavirus in private clinics, we are actually referring to those people who do so without having necessary precautions and training because they risk infecting themselves and go home and give this infection to their family”, Ehanire warned.
The Minister of Health further cautioned that healthcare workers who have no training have no business handling coronavirus.
