It appears the coast is getting clearer for the enthronement of female game changers in Africa, as Pharm. (Mrs) Abimbola Adebakin, CEO of Advantage Healthcare Africa (AHA) and four other dynamic women recently clinched the Bayer Foundation Women Empowerment Award, with a cash prize of €25,000 each.

In addition to the €25,000 cash prizes, the winners are also entitled to participate in a growth accelerator programme for a period of 24 weeks, which will be facilitated by Bayer Foundation partners- AfCE and Endeva.

Other winners in the same category with Adebakin are: Caitlin Dolkart (Flare); Morenike Fajemisin (Whispa Health); Angella Kyomugisha (Kaaro Health) and Cynthia Mene (Vetsark).

In a letter announcing the AHA CEO as one of the winners, the Executive Director, Bayer Foundation, Dr Monika Lessi and Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Bayer Foundation, Prof. Andre Habisch, jointly congratulated her for making it to the final list of the empowerment competition, while describing her as an entrepreneur per excellence.

“Bayer Foundation grants this certificate to recognise her excellent performance in the Women Empowerment Award 2021 and making it to the final. The innovative pharmacist said such recognition is a motivation to spread her tentacles in impacting more younger pharmacists as well as introducing more dynamism into healthcare through technological platform.

Pharmanewsonline gathers that this is the first time the Bayer Foundation is introducing the Women Empowerment Award to support female entrepreneurs in Sub-Saharan Africa with groundbreaking ideas, particularly to recognise and celebrate their roles as game changers, driving sustainability and social impact through entrepreneurial innovation.

Some of the criteria for eligibility as stated by the Foundation are: Female entrepreneurs leading innovative social enterprises with a focus on Sub-Saharan; Africa enterprises that already have their first customer and less than 1 million EUR revenue per year; Partners that can generate large scale social impact, sharing the vision: Health for all, Hunger for none”.

Through the Women Empowerment Award, Bayer Foundation offers a partnership which goes far beyond a one-off cash prize. During the 24-week training period, the winners will receive tailored support and training for scaling, including active investor feedback. In addition, they will be able to will tap into an extensive network of Bayer experts, who will offer coaching both in health and nutrition as well as sustainable agriculture related focus areas. Last but not least, all winners will become part of Bayer Foundation’s exceptional global alumni and partner network, which offers the opportunity to raise capital and exchange knowledge about experience gained.
