AHAPN Elects New Excos as Olabode Ogunjemiyo Emerges New Chairman

Members of the Association of Hospital and Administrative Pharmacists of Nigeria (AHAPN) have elected new national executives to pilot the affairs of the association for the next three years, with Pharm. Olabode  Ogunjemiyo,  emerging the new chairman, after defeating his opponent Pharm. Ameh Abdullahi with some votes.

The election, which held at the 22nd Annual National Scientific Conference of AHAPN, during the Annual General Meeting, saw Pharm. Elechi Oyin, as vice-chairman; Pharm. Ayodeji Obikoya, secretary; Pharm. Joseph Oladele, assistant secretary; Pharm. Oyinlade Kehinde, treasurer; Pharm. Zainab Olaitan Alabi, as publicity secretary; Pharm. Olarenwaju Saheed, financial secretary; Pharm. Abdulai Hassan Ahmed, as internal auditor; Pharm. Margaret Eze, unofficio member II and Pharm. Francis Odigie, unofficio I.

A committee of past national chairmen of AHAPN was also inaugurated at the Closing Banquet, which was made up of Pharm. Abdulaziz Idris; Pharm. Yakubu Maji-Isah; Pharm. Martins Oyewole; and Dr Kingsley Amibor. They are to serve as advisory body to the elected national executive council, in reconciliating conflicts and related matters in the association.

In his acceptance speech, Ogunjemiyo appreciate the Almighty God for making the day a reality in the lives of all elected members, citing the scriptural passage which says “there is time for everything under the sun”. Narrating his experience when he initially heard the result of the elections, he disclosed that he was filled with mixed feelings, excited for winning, but sober because it was call to service.

“When I was told the result of the elections, I initially wanted to start jubilating, but it later dawn on me that it is a call to service. I’m encouraged with the array of elected leaders in the team that we are going to sail through successfully, even beyond our imaginations. By the grace of God, we are not going to let down AHAPN and PSN, as we are going to put in our best, and by God’s grace, we will succeed.

“ It is going to be an inclusive administration, because there are no losers, but it’s certain that one person must emerge as the winner. We are going to walk with everyone, including those aspirants who couldn’t scale through. On behalf of AHAPN, I say thank you all”, he said.

Dr Amibor, while delivering his hand over speech expressed his profound gratitude to God and  all members who supported the good course of his administration to make it a success. He noted that collaboration is key to achieving great height as no one is an island of knowledge. So he urged  all members to collaborate and work with the new executives for  the growth of the association.

Particularly, he appreciated the support of the PSN President, Pharm.(Mazi) Sam Ohuabunwa, Dr Daniel Orumwense, Dr Lolu Ojo, for their immense contributions to the success of his tenure. He didn’t forget to acknowledge the Chairman and members of Local Organising Committee for the success of the conference.

He narrated the story of his tenure thus: “Three years ago, we did promise to rebrand and reposition Hospital and Administrative Pharmacy practice for which we set up an 8- Point Agenda.  Then core dispensing was the order of the day in our healthinstitutions.

“Today, I am glad to report that virtually all of the 8-Point Agenda have been fulfilled.

“Consultancy Pharmacy practice, pharmaceutical care,  specialization and subspecialization are now the order of the day.

“Upon assumption of office,  my National Executive Committee paid a courtesy call on the PSN President Mazi Sam Ohuabunwa FPSN, where we presented a 17 Point Agenda to him and he immediately began to run with the AHAPN vision. I equally appreciate the  support  of Dr. Daniel Orumwense FPSN who stood by me all through my tenure as National Chairman.  Dr Lolu Ojo FPSN was also there for me, I remember at the beginning of our tenure, he sat me down and gave me advice on how to go about the job and several others too”.
