There are indications at the weekend that Lagos might be experiencing another lockdown soon if the latest statistics of confirmed COVID-19 cases persist in the state, which recorded 255 out of 300 infections across the nation.
The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, NCDC had reported no new infection for Lagos on Saturday, but cases surged on Sunday to 255 cases, which bring the total number of confirmed infection in the state to 22,089.
The agency through its micro website disclosed other states which accounted for the new 300 confirmed cases which are FCT-27, Oyo -10, Kaduna -5, Ondo -2, and Kano -1.
“Till date, 64090 cases have been confirmed, 59910 cases have been discharged and 1154 deaths have been recorded in 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory”, it stated.
Reports garnered from the NCDC for Lagos state since August 22 show that the latest figure of 255 new infection is the highest recorded for a single day.
The Lagos State commissioner for Health, Prof. Akin Abayomi further hinted on the situation in the state as of Sunday night, saying 24 of the cases are currently under isolation in public and private #COVID19 Care Centres.
The commissioner who tweeted via his verified Twitter handle @ProfAkinAbayomi said 985 active cases in communities are been managed under the #COVID19Lagos home based care programme and they are receiving treatment via EkoTelemed services.
Meanwhile, the NCDC announced the discharged of 26 COVID-19 patients in the last 24 hours with 59,910 as the total number of successfully treated cases in the country.
The public health agency said that no new COVID-19 deaths were reported during the period as the national death toll remains 1,154 for the fourth consecutive day.
