In what many have described as an award well deserved, Pharm.(Sir) Ike Onyechi, managing director, Alpha Pharmacy&Stores, one of the most efficient retail outfits in the country, has won the prestigious May & Baker Professional Service Award 2020.
Sir Onyechi was announced the winner of the award at the closing banquet ceremony of the 93rd PSN Conference held at De Distinguished Event Centre, Osogbo, Osun State, on 13 November 2020, and was also presented with the plaque, certificate, and a dummy cheque of N500,000.
Speaking after the award presentation, an elated Onyechi, who was represented by Pharm. Ignatius Anukwu, national chairman, Association of Industrial Pharmacists of Nigeria (NAIP) remarked that it felt good to know that people recognise contributions to be rewarded for hardwork.
According to him, “It feels good to be awarded for good work, so I feel honoured and appreciated. However it calls for more energy and work,” he said.
Sir Onyechi is the national president, Christian Pharmacists Fellowship of Nigeria (CPFN), a Fellow of both the Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria (PSN) and the West African Postgraduate College of Pharmacists (WAPCP), and an Alumnus of Lagos Business School.
Over the years, the May & Baker Professional Service Award in Pharmacy has become a flagship professional award in the pharmaceutical landscape in Nigeria, as it aims to reward excellence and innovation in the practice of Pharmacy in Nigeria.
The award carries a prize reward of N500,000, plus a passage allowance to enable the winner to attend the National Conference of PSN to receive the award.
To qualify for the award, applicants would include relevant evidence of whatever claims they may have concerning their achievements for verification and would appear before the award selection committee to clarify some of the claims.
Among other things, the committee scrutinized the credentials for elements of integrity, leadership positions held in pharmacy, academic and professional qualifications, innovations in the area of practice, professional/academic performance, philanthropic activities, and service to humanity outside pharmacy.
