The President, International Pharmaceutical Federation, Dominique Jordan, has passed on today, Saturday, 19 August, 2023, after a brief illness.
The late leader of the global Pharmacy body was born in 1960 and died today, the FIP disclosed through a statement sighted by pharmewsonline.
Mr Jordan, a Swiss pharmacist, became a member of FIP 20 years ago and was was elected president of FIP in 2018. Prior to his election as the president, he served the federation as chair of the Board of Pharmaceutical Federation from 2014 to 2018.
In her tributes to him, the FIP CEO, Catherine Duggan, described the deceased as an exceptional advocate of Pharmacy profession, who was dedicated to advancing Pharmacy in every country. He was convinced that FIP was the platform by which this could be achieved.
“During his presidency, he led our federation through the global crisis of COVID-19 and introduced the vision of ‘One FIP’, which resulted in greater collaboration between the many constituencies within our organisation and increased engagement with our members”.
The Immediate Past President, Carmen Peña, also said concerning Jordan, “Dominique was a brave president; during his tenure at FIP, he had to overcome difficult times for humanity in the form of the COVID pandemic. And he with his team did it by reinforcing our federation to fight the storm, giving visibility to FIP in the world of health. His love for our profession led him to lead pharmacy successfully both in his country and in FIP.
“Together with Catherine Duggan, supported by their technical and political teams, they launched Dominique’s ONE FIP project in the three pillars of our profession: education, science and practice. Dominique was a man of honour, always in search of continuous improvement, with a firm hand and a big heart”.
In accordance to the FIP Statutes, the President-Elect, Paul Sinclair has been directed to start performing the duties of president as of today.
Sinclair described Jordan as a leader of the profession at a local, national and international level for many years, noting that his commitment to Pharmacy was never more evident than during the COVID-19 pandemic when he championed an expanded hands-on role of pharmacists when many primary healthcare professionals went to virtual models.
“His leadership of FIP has seen our federation grow stronger, more resilient and become more member focused. Dominique was a passionate pharmacist, a strong, considered leader and a good friend to all,” he said.
Meanwhile, FIP has disclosed that it will be compiling a book of tributes to Jordan and will provide further details in due course.
