– As Modupe Oyawole Becomes New Chairman

The newly elected Chairman, AHAPN Lagos, Pharm. (Dr) Modupe Oyawole, addressing her colleagues shortly after her inauguration.

Members of the Association of Hospital and Administrative Pharmacists of Nigeria (AHAPN) Lagos State Chapter, have elected new executives to pilot the affairs of the group for the next three years, with Dr (Mrs) Modupe Oyawole, emerging the new chairman, and Pharm. Kingsley Ekwunife, as vice-chairman.

The election of the new executives took place on Wednesday during the Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the association, held at the Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria (PSN) Lagos State Secretariat, Ogudu.

Other elected executives were: Pharm. Christopher Ugwu, secretary; Pharm. Temitope Akinboro, asst. secretary; Pharm. Abisola Akinsanya, treasurer; Pharm. Comfort Osanaiye, financial secretary; Pharm. Abidemi Ajayi, publicity secretary; Pharm. Ismaila Aderibigbe, editor-in-chief; Pharm. Olufemi Ojuoko, unofficial 1and Oyetunde Ajayi, unofficial 2, as presented by the Screening Committee Chairman, Pharm. (Mrs) CZ Martins.

The AGM, which featured presentation of awards to past chairmen and other distinguished members, was massively attended by members and also had in attendance, National Chairman, AHAPN, Pharm. Olabode Ogunjemiyo; National Secretary, AHAPN, Pharm. Oladele Obikoya; Chairman, Lagos State PSN, Pharm. Gbolagade Iyiola; Immediate Past Chairman, Lagos PSN; Pharm. BFO Adeniran and other past chairmen of the association.

In his remarks, Ogunjemiyo, lauded the Lagos Chapter of the association for their giant strides in promoting the image and practice of the profession, saying without the existence of the state chapter, AHAPN would find it difficult to survive, as they are always putting in so much from their end.

Appreciating members of the association for the confidence reposed in her and other executives, the newly elected chairman, Oyawole assured them of an all-inclusive administration, as she solicited their cooperation. She acknowledged the huge work done by the last exco, saying there is always room for improvement, as the onus is on them to take the association higher than they met it.

She said: “Although it is a huge task going by what the previous excos have done, but there is always room for more, and that is what we have come to do. We are going to try our best to hit the ground running, as there are many outstanding issues to be sorted out, while we endeavour to address everyone’s interest”.

Speaking about her interest for the group, being a specialist and clinical pharmacist, l will like a lot of our members to expand their practice in clinical area. “We will also do more on welfare of members in order to carry everybody along”, she pledged.

Earlier while rendering report of her administration, the Immediate Past Chairman, Dr (Mrs) Titilayo Onedo, appreciated all her exco members for their great contributions towards the success of the tenure, as she highlighted the achievements of the team.

Some of the feats recorded by the group under her watch were: Medical outreaches to mark the WHO World Health Days or cater for the health needs of the people; AHAPN Day of Lagos State PSN Scientific week; Creation of IT platform on Facebook (Talk to your Pharmacist) to meet the health information needs of people on different topics; Presentations of members at some radio stations like Rainbow FM and Wazobia FM; Appearance of a larger number of members at Channels COVID-19 Update, among others.

She particularly thanked heads of pharmacy units in the different institutions, states, federal hospitals, private hospitals, NIMR and regulatory bodies ( PCN and NAFDAC). “Special gratitude to the Director of Pharmaceutical Services, Health Service Commission and Director, Pharmaceutical Services Ministry of Health Lagos.

“My sincere gratitude goes to Pharm. Gbolagade Iyiola and Pharm. BFO Adeniran, for their unrelenting supports, their listening ears, guidance and direction “ she enthused.
