The Adamawa State Government, North East Nigeria has extended the resumption of primary and secondary schools across the state due to measles outbreak.
In a statement by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Education and Human Capital Development, Aisha Umar, explained that the students were scheduled to resume on 6 May but it was extended to 13 May to contain the measles outbreak in parts of the state.
The third term academic session which has been extended to 13 May 2024 is to enable the state government to vaccinate children against measles in the twenty-one Local Government Areas of the State.
”The disease had already affected some children and the extension will enable the task force to conduct an elaborate vaccination campaign for all children,” Ms Umar explained.
Earlier, Governor Ahmadu Fintiri, has directed that all schools, both public and private, should remain closed for one week.
She added that, the ministry regrets all inconveniences caused by the sudden extension.
