NAPharm Commends Drug and Substance Committee Members

In what has been adjudged as an excellent performance by many, the Nigeria Academy of Pharmacy (NAPharm) recently organised a dinner to appreciate the wonderful performance of the Drug and Substance Abuse Committee members, for the commitment and dedication they exhibited during the walk against drug abuse and the symposium organised by the committee.

The dinner held at the Sheraton Hotel Ikeja, Lagos, was graced by th NAPharm President, Prince Julius Adelusi – Adeluyi;  Vice-President, NAPharm, Sir Ifeanyi Atueyi; Treasurer, NAPharm, Sir Ike Onyechi; Prof. Cecilia Igwilo, council member; Prof. Olukemi Odukoya; Chairman, NAPharm Drug and Substance Abuse Committee, Dr Lolu Ojo; other distinguished Fellows of the Academy and industry leaders.

The committee, comprising members drawn from thirteen different sections of the Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria, had demonstrated team spirit during the last assignment committed into their hands and proved that a great result can be achieved with unity of purpose.

In his address at the dinner, the President of the Academy, Prince Julius Adelusi-Adeluyi, expressed his delight at the commitment and innovative ideas of the members and assured them that they would always be remembered for their services. He said the committee has demonstrated that with teamwork and unity of purpose great results can be achieved.

He especially appreciated the Chairman of the committee, Dr Lolu Ojo, for his leadership qualities. He noted that the walk against drug abuse organised on 10 July was very successful and attracted a large number of pharmacists both young and old, despite the drizzle of that morning.

While presenting highlights of the committee’s report, Ojo noted that the team of 25 members drawn from thirteen different sections of the Society was tagged, Pharmacy United. The committee had six sub-committees which performed very well and a few plenary sessions were held to which some experts were invited to enlighten them on the subject. He commended everyone for their unique contributions.

The chairman further explained that a press conference was held on Monday, 3 June and there was a blitz of news reports on popular electronic, print and social media.  The awareness walk was held on Monday, 10 June from Allen Roundabout to Ikeja Under-Bridge and various banners, placards were used. Thousands of handbills on the dangers of drug abuse were distributed. He thanked the pharmaceutical companies that supported the walk and provided the T-shirt and especially appreciated their strategic partner, Worldwide Healthcare Limited that mobilised their staff for the walk.

Ojo said the symposium was the grand finale held on Tuesday, 11 June at the Sheraton Hotel, Ikeja, Lagos. The keynote address was delivered by Dr Martin Agwogie, while the symposium panel discussion was professionally chaired by Dr Dere Awosika.
